Sir Wombat/Tasmanian devil:
We really need a clip of JSS singing Dead or Alive...DON"T WE?
That's a must have. I know that nobody is gonna nail that to the woodwork like Perry live, but I keep thinking about what Soto would do with it and I bet it is rockin'.

Yeah, I would think that would be one of his best songs. One of the band's most underappreciated tunes, IMO.

JSS did well last night. After the second song, Jon Cain announced that Steve Augeri was not with them due to illness and that JSS was filling in. I heard a collective "awwwww" within the crowd around me. About half way into the show the only remark JSS made was that he was proud to be singing with Journey and happy that he was filling in for the summer.

There was absolutely no doubt that NEAL SCHON stole the show. All he had to do was hint at a solo and the crowd went crazy. The song of the night was Don't Stop Believin. As soon as they started, everyone stood up and began to sing. JSS may have been singing it but I couldn't hear him at all over the crowd! Very apparent that was the song they were waiting for. I was hoping anything from Generations would be played but it didn't happen. When Journey played Chain Reaction and Dead or Alive I was asked if I knew those songs (very young gentlemen sitting in front of me asked).

Other than a few converstations I had with some very friendly people standing in line waiting to purchase a t-shirt and on the trolly ride to the venue & back from the parking lot, it was apparent that the crowd wanted to hear the hits.

Did JSS sound good? Absolutely, yes he did - but he was not perfect. He messed up a line in the first song after Neals solo. No biggie. Did he hit the highs? Nope, not all of them nor did Deen fill in for them. No biggie. (I was not looking for a perfect concert either and was probably more critical than the average fan because of what I read on this message board). I personally felt that there was a little something missing to the sound. There is something about Steve Augeri's voice that adds to the Journey style. Did I have a great time? Yep, I sure did and it appeared that everyone else in the venue did also. Big range of fan ages.

Should be a good summer for Journey fans. Neal Schon did not let anyone down. NIG: NEAL IS GOD! lol...

Because he is a tenor and was hired specifically to try to sound like Perry to cover the hits. However, when he stops singing and starts rolling tape, that's where the "Journey style" ends. I don't ever want them to be known for THAT style. Only Perry is Journey "style." It was stupid on their part to try to duplicate that. That got them into this mess and now Soto is trying to get them out. More power to him. If they don't change things up, they are gonna end up PERMANENTLY in Vegas with Augeri. A real kick-ass end to Journey's career, doncha think?

You are most definitely entitled to your opinion, as I am mine. I said JOURNEY STYLE...not perry. I NEVER thought that Augeri sounded like Perry and have stated so many times.

Keep flogging the horse. Tapegate is more an issue to you than it is to me. And from watching the crowd last night, I would guess that they could care less either. It was more than apparent they wanted to hear the hits. Thats what they paid for, thats what they got.

Have a great day!

I just read Gary Schutt's review of Journey in Tampa and thought how interesting it was that there are differing views of this concert.

Though the venue was packed - it was not sold out ( I saw multiple rows throughout the venue that were empty). As for JSS hitting the highs, hate to disagree but he did not hit all of them. And as always and like any other concert, when Journey played tunes that were unfamiliar to the audience (Chain Reaction & Dead or Alive) that was the cue for beer and bathroom runs. JSS sounded great, Journey sounded great and no doubt a good time was had by all.

Most definitely this world is made up of different people with varied perspectives - and thats a-okay!

Journey On!

Man, I'm loving that setlist. Add Where Were You back into it and I'm in heaven. I'm loving the fact that they're stretching out so much, and Neal starting the show with a solo? Killer!!! He's a guitar god, and like EVH, should've always been kicking off the show with a solo in my opinion. Great move!!

Excellent. LTS is my least favorite of the "dirty dozen" anyway!
