Its as if they are shocked that the vocals sound different than what they are used to, and because they are different they aren't good.

Wrong Eric... and Andrew..Im not shocked to hear a "different" voice ... JSS is doing a 70% decent job..its just that I want a voice that can handle the keys..unless..as I keep bangin on about..they take it down a semi tone..Im shocked to hear a voice thats sometimes flat..sometimes shouting to get the note, and, struggles to "maintain" the note...often cutting it out..and hes doin far too much of that age old ploy, when you cant get the notes, askin the audience to "join in" or help out..Jeez..Steve A started doin that a hell of a lot toward the end!

I think JSS can still work... coz his voice is great...in its comfort zone..I havent written him off here.. just take the key down a semi tone here n there..and it will be all good!!! Until they do that...its "not gonna happen" for JSS

Well, what they really want is Steve Perry...deep down...just like most of us. I could be a fool, I mean I'm supporting this band no matter what it appears to be honest.

I don't want Journey to go away again.

That's what I think too Eric. They really want a 30 something year old Perry and that fellow doesn't exist. If Steve were to get back with them now they would just pick him apart for not being his 30 something self which, IMO, is one of the reasons he'll never get back with them. Also one of the reasons I wouldn't want him back with them.

The Journey style is defined by the Perry style. Without Perry that's really nothing more than an imitation as long as they use the Journey name. Sure Neal's guitar sound is part of that, but if that was the main ingredient there wouldn't be so much discussion about the non-Perryesque vocals. Another band could be described as Journey style and that would be a compliment. Calling a band named Journey "Journey style" sounds like a backhanded insult to me.

I don't think I'd support another soundalike anymore than I did Augeri because it just does nothing for me to see Journey being an imitation of itself. I'd rather see it go away with whatever dignity they have left than just fade away into nostalgic oblivion.

If Perry did come back his vocals would be scrutinized 24-7...yes.

I don't see a strong majority being happy with any lead vocalist, including Mr. P.

Thats why I say find JSS's best songs and Castronovo's best songs and write some new material and let that be the future. The concerts would be fun, and we'd have new Journeyesque music to listen to.

I'd be real interested in breaking down opinions of this by "Lived through 77-86 Journey" vs. "Did not". I am a newbie in that I became a fan AFTER the initial ending...late 80's/early 90's. I just haven't created enough memories with this music yet...perhaps you have Ohsherrie

Yeah Eric, all of my good Journey musical memories come from the Perry years.

Journey blew any chance of ever making the Rock n Roll hall of fame, when this shit with Augeri went down. They could have left well enough alone and let the Perry Era, or even up to Arrival be the end of it all. They chose not to, and painted themselves intoa corner they'll never get out of. Even if Perry somehow found a time travelling way to get back to 1981-2 form, he couldn't save what's left of this thing.

But I think you will find that many concert-goers are quite happy with what they are hearing. I listened to the boot and I admit that JSS struggles. But at the same time, I still found myself enjoying the songs. It is good music. They are good songs. And it still sounds fun. In fact, you add the stage presence that JSS brings and you increase that fun atmosphere. The vocals do appear to be less important. Maybe that is due to the "softening" through Steve. Maybe the audiences no longer have the same expectations. Maybe "we" have lowered our standards a little, I don't know. Maybe it is simply that the music stands for itself and it is easier to see that now...

I was blow away by his stage presence in Nashville. He did ok on the songs. Be Good.. really sucked. But at the same time Wanted..., and Escape were awesome. Great show, his voice lacks the Journey feel to it, but still great vocals from him. But it is still young into the tour. So JSS has moved up on my list for sure. Is he the best man to take over if Augeri does not come back? As of now, NO!, but it is still young in the tour-ERIC
