NIG says; " By a very few manic Perry fans. The majority of fans who see them live are casual fans who don't even know Perry is gone. Perry's following is not as big as you think. It's the music that keeps people coming back."

To a certain extent, yes, I agree with you on your very last sentence. NIG, if they reunited with Perry for one tour, do you think they would be playing to that same number of fans? If there would be thousands more, why would that be? Or do you think they would still be playing on half a stage opening for Def Leppard?

ticket prices would be higher.

They could pull a Bon Jovi and announce say 10 shows across the U.S. in Baseball or Football stadiums. People would drive for hours and hours, mortgage their house, etc. rake in the dough, and release any kind of music they want, after that, never have to tour again, EVER. But that woudln't be enough for Schon.

If Perry came back, they would probably be playing a tour similar to the 30th Anniversary tour (assuming Perry's voice could handle it, which it probably could not). Perry returning wouldn't mean they would be selling out stadiums. This is 2006.

Hey, I'll give ya that, but they sure wouldn't be stooping to the stuff they are doing now. They'd sell a hell of alot more tickets than the 30th anniversary tour. And what's up with the half a stage stuff on this tour?

I don't know, but it's what they signed on for. Doesn't matter to me.

Perry would not generate much more interest than the current lineup. I firmly believe that.

If what the band wanted was another soundalike just to get through this Greatest Hits tour, hell yes Jeremy would have been the best choice they could possibly have made. There's also Hugo and another singer for a band called Escape that could have filled the bill adequately. They know these guys are out there, but instead they called on a very busy singer who has a career of his own, albeit not as well known in this country as Journey, who sings a different style of music.

That leads me to believe there is some plan afoot here. I may be wrong, it could just be because Neal is so familiar with Jeff. It doesn't seem as though Jeff would have dropped everything on a day's notice to fill in for the duration of this tour if that's all there was to it. Again, I could be wrong, it may just be friendship with Neal.

I think this is testing the waters for a new direction for Journey and if so I'm all for it. I'm not going to judge Jeff's abilities to make this a credible band on what people think of a couple boots from his first performances with them. At first I thought he must have been preparing for a while because stepping in on only a day's notice seemed too outrageous, but Andrew has said that that was indeed the case. He's doing a hell of a job and in a circumstance that most people wouldn't touch.

If he can lead Journey in a direction that will make them more than just a nostalgia act destined for obscurity then I'm going to give him every chance to do so. If they stay on the soundalike course playing nothing but Greatest Hits you'll probably be seeing them in a couple years at your local Harvest Jubilee.

Like I've said before, I want more than that for the legacy of Journey.

So what? I would take a Final Farewell of major arenas and the classic lineup in a heartbeat. If you think about it, everything is set for Perry to return. There is no singer, really. The time is right, if there ever was one.

These guys are addicted to scratch. They would get more bank from ONE tour with Perry than the previous 8 years combined.

I disagree. Journey is no bigger than DL, and DL has their singer. And they can't sell out arenas by themselves anymore. All you would get is more of the die-hard Perry fans (read: hausfraus) coming to the shows.

I agree with you. This is 2006, not 1981. So much have changed during those 25 years. Not only Journey. It wasn't like all American media started hoping for Perry when Augeri left. They just published the press release and went on with it. Most media probably even threw away that press release.

That's true. Now that Journey has no "official" lead singer it would be the best time to do it.

FACT: Those pipes are GONE. They were gone in '86, they were gone in '94, they were gone in '96 and they're gone now.

FACT: Steve Perry doesn't want to tour. If he did, he'd have done it.

I love wishing and hoping as much as the next guy, but hell...let's be real.

And the last time Perry started growing his hair he let it get to his ass before he did anything. We could be waiting a few more years
