True, but in civilized discourse it shouldn't be. Educated people with a modicum of self-restrain and a dab of maturity can have discussions and even arguments without all the vile and hateful stuff. When a person Name calling, for example calling me RossValory'sNuts :roll:, belongs in elementary school. Most people grow out of this phase by the time they hit late high school or college. Others persist at this type of aberant behavior, especially on internet forums it seems, well into adulthood.

Truth is not dependent on hate or vile words, or namecalling, in fact truth is removed from those things: It stands on its own.
All the hatred and vileness do is label the person using such devices and uneducated, poorly adjusted, and having a weak argument. Doing just that is why so many people don't believe Dean's evidence. It made his argument look weak, even though he was right. It's what makes your point about truth sometimes being vile and hate filled, though true, is made to look ridiculous due to using childish name calling.

Good points RVR. I have witnessed the immaturity of others with regard to me and my life and all I can say is my students who are in middle school often represent themselves in a more mature manner. With that- some of the stuff on here makes me laugh, some makes me cringe, but ultimately it is the internet so I pretty much take things with a grain of salt and always make up my own mind.

Fine be a flame warrior, but don't expect people to take you seriously if you are.

There are consequences to actions, even on internet forums, the most obvious being people will just ignore what you have to say and move on.

Not a Flame Warrior here in that I do not reduce my thoughts to ad hominem attacks to prove a point. :wink: I make comments based on my own observations, that's all. Strict debate by the rules makes my head spin :shock: , but I'm a pretty logical and measured poster for the most part. :wink:

I'll second that. I've found that most people who revert to that sort of behavior do so when they know they can't win an arguement. They just start namecalling and labelling then claim victory because they've slung the most mud.

JSS is a regular poster on the Noticeboard of MelodicRock. He also has a MySpace, and would converse regularly with the forums on his boards. He has been on BT. I have no doubt he will have something to say here soon too.
