Steve DID screw them! He never had any intention of touring with Journey again! The hip thing was just a convenient excuse! I'm not saying he didn't have a hip problem, but I am absolutely convinced he was never going to tour and screwed every member of that band by not promoting the album, not performing at the Grammies, not touring, etc. etc. etc.

It is rediculous how some here make judgements & blame Perry for everything under the sun. He had medical problem & He HAD to take care of his health.

You seem to think that Perry screwed the band members because he had a medical problem that "required medical leave", so by you judging Perry this way, I guess you would probaly feel Augeri screwed every member of the band too, when he got his chronic infection in his throat that caused him not to be able to sing any more????

Lori

They gave Perry 2 years to shit or get off the pot...and he didn't shit...but he didn't want to get off the pot. Steve Perry ISN'T Journey...he made his bed and now he has to sleep in it. That and he cannot sing for prolonged periods anymore...the TBF sessions were a nightmare...I know several people that were there for them...

but then you had a person who came and said he could sing for them and he sung and he sung until he couldn't sing anymore. he wiggled his way across the stage in a pair of red leather pants and thought that the faster he wiggled the more applause he would get and no one would know that he wasn't singing.

i think that pointing fingers and taking sides is a worthless endeavor. it just gets worse the more you look at it. steve p screwed the band and steve a screwed the audience.

The time length does not matter here, when diagnosed with a serious medical problem, people don't always get easy fix it answers ( from the medical doctors) & healing time doesn't come fast when you want it to either.

As for TBF being a nightmare, well I certainly don't believe that at all, WYLAW got a grammy nomination, and he has been singing with other musicians "well after" TBF Cd, his voice sounds fantastic to me!!! :D :D

By the way, IF YOU really believe that he cannot sing for prolonged periods of time, then why the anger directed at him??? IF YOU really believed that, then you shouldn't be angry at him. I guess this is just your own issues, NOT Perry's.

Perry did screw them...and his fan base ......everytime he cancelled/didn't show for/ran out on/ a tour. He would do it again if he got the chance, but hell's not about to freeze over anytime soon.

What's a "hip jerk?" If you meant "hip, jerk," sorry to disappoint you, but I am definitely not a jerk just because I have a different take on things than you do.

If Perry had hip surgery, go ahead, PROVE IT. Or maybe you can get Hots to do it. She once searched for Perry's mother's Death Certificate.

Hey Lori........NOT talking to you...please contribute something legitimate if it's not too much trouble. And stick to the topic at hand.

Anytime, Fred!

So what you are saying then is you knew what he was thinking at the time? No you don't and i do not buy it at all he would all. I feel sure there were problems but i will always feel he would have toured with them he was getting ready for the tour when it got hurt. I just wish everyone would stop talking for him and let him tell it.But he has already told us the story.

Whether or not he intended to tour is irrelevant. Perry left Journey hanging for nearly two years with NO Communication, NO Decisioc and NO Commitment. Every good thing they did for the reunion (Depending on your point of view) Perry took away by how he handled himself.

Hey, how'd I get into this?

Anything I could/would say would be construed as me attacking Steve, even if what I'm saying is true, or my solid opinion on the matter.

For the record, I don't believe Perry had a hip problem and I don't believe he had hip surgery. That's not an attack on Perry, but simply my opinion of the situation. If it turns out that we all find out one day that Perry did NOT have surgery, then the Perry-ites will simply continue to run to his defense anyway. Me? I'm not bothered either way if Perry did or didn't have a hip problem. If he did NOT have a hip problem, then it's obvious he had no intention of touring. If he DID have a hip problem, then he can be excused for his lack of ability to tour. Either way, it's all water under the bridge and to my way of thinking has no bearing on the present. If Perry did NOT have a hip problem and used that figment of his imagination to get out of touring, then it's no better (and possibly worse) than Augeri lip-syncing to his own singing. Trouble is those that are FOR Perry will simply pat Steve on the back and go, "Way to go, Steve! I can understand you not wanting to tour with Neal and the guys again! Good job!" With Augeri, they'll continue to call him numerous names, etc. However, the one thing that he has going for him is that he did not do what Milli Vanilli did - they lip-sync'd to OTHER singers' voices. Augeri lip-sync'd to his own. And by the way, Madonna does it in concert and I even have a live performance of Sarah Brighton lip-syncing to her own voice live in concert.

Does the Perry situation matter to me? Nope, not one iota. I don't care if Perry did have surgery, didn't have surgery or anything else, or had no hips to have surgery on. I think what happened with TBF was a way for Journey to fulfill their contract with the label. Trouble is, the guys were looking FORWARD and Steve was likely looking at a way OUT. They finished the recording and then Steve opted out of touring, referring to his hip problem as the problem, which would legally allow him to bow out of touring, without breach of contract trouble. So, he fulfilled the contract with the label and was able to not have to tour due to health issues. They put out some nice music on TBF, though I find it interesting that Herbie refers to the CD as "monotone." In some ways it is, because you can tell the entire CD is filled with that same angst and heaviness all the way through. However, I like a number of songs on it, more songs from that CD than from Frontiers.

Would Steve Perry be accepted again? Of course he would...by those who have never given up on him. Would I go see him in concert with Journey? No. Would I go see him if he toured as Steve Perry with a backup band? No. Would I buy his CD if he ever released one? Of course I would. I have nearly everything else he released.

RVR did not appear angry to me.
BUT, what he said was the TBF sessions were difficult because Perry cannot sing for prolonged periods of time. Your "evidence" does not hold up because everything Perry has done since TBF (two, count them, two background vocals) were simple and appear quick to knock out. Nothing torturous about that. But an entire CD could be a different story. Maybe that is why it has taken so long for Perry to record this 'farewell' CD. Maybe he has spent the better part of the last 8-10 months in the studio for short periods of time. If there is no plan to tour on it, there is no reason why he cannot take ALL THE TIME in the world to record.

I'd buy a solo/farewell/throw-the-fans-a-bone album. Why? Cause I don't care what he does or doesn't do anymore with regards to touring or Journey. I just wanna hear him sing.

Aside: somebody went looking for his mom's death certificate? They don't believe she passed away, or was the person that obsessed? Geez... I should send em a photo of the headstone. Has her picture on it and everything. But that would be encouraging obsessive behaviour and since I got it accidentally, I'm excused from that label.

No, I was taking photographs in some local cemeteries for a Goth-type project. The name on the stone never even clicked until a few months later. I took it out of the batch when someone told me Perry had sent the law after some fans taking photos there.

The person was (still is....and she has plenty of company) obsessed...They put the fan into fanatical.

Too bad Hottsie wasn't there when the cops came. Yeah, that Perry is really something...if he didn't want anybody anywhere near his mother's headstone, why didn't he buy some private land somewhere and keep her there? Or put her in a private tomb, where there wouldn't be access to her? Cemeteries are public domain. Now, you know you will have the perryloon girls clamoring for more information from you, don't you?

It's been a while since I lived in that area, so I have just now conveniently forgotten everything I know about it.

My concern was grounded. I sure didn't want him seeing me in that cemetery after that, public or not! We had a few friends in common, and that would not have looked good on my part.

You have GOT to be kidding me! You can't arrest someone for simply taking pictures at a cemetary unless the cemetary is PRIVATE. I could see sending the law if someone was desecrating a gravestone or grave site, but snapping a photo?

It was one of those "my friend knows the girl who was with the girl who it happened to" deals. Supposedly one of the girls approached him (SP) and if that was the case, I could see him getting a bit ticked. I mean, fan appreciation is one thing, but trying to talk to someone while they're in the graveyard with their late mother is over the line, wouldn't you think? And taking photos of the stone for a piece of Perry memorabilia is just weird. I guess if someone were just snapping at random, he might have been okay with it, but KNOWING why the girls were there made it different.

Whatever happened had become a local Perry legend before I was ever on the scene, so I don't know if there's even any basis in truth there. *shrug*
