Pics from Journey in Indianapolis!!!

Postby conversationpc » Sun Jul 23, 2006 1:37 pm

First, I now know that the JSS who posted here is indeed the real deal...Mr. Jeff Scott Soto. I was able to attend tonight's show and the meet-n-greet with the band beforehand.

All in all, it seemed to be a harder rocking Journey than what I've been used to in the past. That's not necessarily good or bad, just different. All the guys seemed to be enjoying themselves. I even saw Jonathan smile quite a bit and I remember reading quite a few recent reviews saying that he just looked like he was going through the motions. I wish I could've gotten some better pics of Deen, but there was a lot of glare of the glass to either side of his drums and, unfortunately, I was far enough to stage right (only 9 rows back from the stage) that I couldn't get a good shot of him.

Here's the set list (not necessarily in order, but I think I got all the songs here...)

  • Star Spangled Banner
  • Stone in Love
  • Ask the Lonely
  • Any Way You Want It
  • Keep on Runnin'
  • Lights
  • Who's Crying Now (Deen on lead vox)
  • Only the Young
  • Dead or Alive
  • Chain Reaction
  • Escape
  • Open Arms (Deen on lead vox)
  • Lovin', Touchin', Squeezin' (I don't typically care as much for this one but the new, bluesy intro is pretty cool)
  • Faithfully (Deen on lead vox)
  • Wheel in the Sky
  • Don't Stop Believin'
  • Encore = Separate Ways (Worlds Apart)

After the first song, Jonathan made the announcement about JSS filling in for the summer. Later on, JSS said thanks for one of his greatest summers ever.

Here's a link to the page with all the photos (86 in all)...The first one is of my daughter and I at the meet-n-greet.

I'll post a few of the better pics here if I can figure out why it's not showing the pics...

Since I wasn't in the lawn, it was harder to hear with some of the noise but he sounded pretty good from what I could tell. I'd like to hear some boots, though, if anyone got any good audio.

Yeah, I was surprised by the SG since I hadn't heard of him playing one, either. He didn't play much keyboards for the first several songs.

Yeah, I just turned around and snapped a few shots of the crowd. The pavilion section holds about 6000 and the lawn seats about another 18,000. The only spots that weren't full were the very back corners of the lawn section. So I'd guess there were about 22,000 there for the show. There had to have been 20,000 at the very least.

I know the pic you're talking about and it does look like he is playing the piano but he's really just standing behind it. My favorite is the one where JSS looks like he is levitating the mic between his hands. I just happened to snap the picture as he was throwing the mic from one hand to the other.
