Update on Steve Augeri

Postby jrnysc » Mon Jul 24, 2006 5:27 am

Just read a post from another site, from a fan who spoke with Kevin Elson last night for about 10 minutes. Not going to copy the entire post, just going to give the details. He said he was glad to get Steve off the road for his own health. He is seeing his third vocal specialist this week in Nashville. This specialist is very, very good and has worked with a lot of top singers. They had thought at one time about letting Deen sing lead, but it was not feasible in the end. If it were a just Journey tour, it would have been cancelled. The post has been edited, but he also mentioned Augeri has POSSIBLY undergone a lung biopsy, and possibly has rheumatoid arthritis. For anyone interested in that disease, google it and take a look. You would be surprised how much this disease can affect a voice. THE MEDICAL DX. ARE UNCONFIRMED AT THIS TIME. Just passing along the info.

If RA is actually what he has, he's got bigger problems than his voice.

I worked w/ RA patients in a PT Dept. while I was in college.

Severely deforming/debilitating/handicapping. Certainly hope that's not the DX.

I agree. Can be very disabling when active. Could be one reason his voice kind of came and went at times. Elson said they could not figure out what was wrong with him ever since his pneumonia in Jan. or Feb.

Rheumatoid arthritis is terrible.I really hope he doesn't have that. :(

It's true - Nashville has some of the first class vocal specialists in the world,so I hope SA will get help real fast.

He could also try some Swiss clinics...Amazing specialists there too.

This is sad...

I agree Shania. Once again, just passing along the info. Anybody that could wish this on anyone certainly has issues. My prayers to Steve and his family. Hopefully that will not be it, and this specialist can get him up and running in no time.

No problem. This seems to have been one of what is very common at Journey shows. You happen to run into someone with the band, and the fan said he was very open to speaking on the matter. They may not be saying anything because there is no confirmed dx. at this time.

I don't buy a single word of this. Yeah, Elson is a real credible source  This is the guy who was in on the tape issue. And like Larry said, Why tell a single fan?

IF he has RA, that's awful, However, this is all such Bullshit.

Want to bet Journey doesn't issue a statement? I bet I get no takers on this.

Just more to the cover up. I don't get these guys. Is Neal Managing the band, because whomever is, isn't to savvy.

For the sake of Steve's health, I hope you're right.

If that is his diagnosis, I really feel bad for him. That's not fun.

Having said that, I agree - why would Kevin Elson just tell one fan and also mention a specific diagnosis like that? I would think he'd say something like, "We talked to Steve/Lydia, and they're seeing more doctors this week and we hope to hear something soon." That is a statement I would expect.

That diagnosis also pretty much confirms he will not be back (not like I thought he would ...)

I really do hope Deano is right about it being bollocks. One of my mum's best friends has rheumatoid arthritis and you should see the state she's in.

But if it's true, I don't think he'll be back :(.

If any of this is the case, he was obviously sick, not just a loss of voice.

Thing is, if they knew he wasn't well then why did they go ahead and do that tour in the first place eh?

Just shows how much they care about their singer.

I sincerely wish him the best and hope he recovers from whatever his vocal and health issues are.

I still hope to see him back with the band one day...

If this is truly the case I feel bad for Augeri. He's young to be stricken with that.

But then, so was Perry when his hip gave away on him. OMG!! Rheumatoid Arthritis/Degenerative Bone Disease(aka arthritis)! ????~~~~ Could this be a curse on Journey frontmen ~~~~ ????

Not to make light of what could be a terrible situation for Augeri, but the similarity just strikes me as a little odd.

2 words: excessive touring.

If this turns out to be true, my guess would be that's what's had a bad effect on both of them.

The amount of touring they do, especially in the last few years, would be enough to do damage to any singer. I'm surprised Deen hasn't had any problems yet with all that drumming.

Come on? He never had pneumonia either...unless he is super human and cured himself in less than a week. Remember, he was "singing" in Hawaii in 6 days after they cancelled Chile.

This (I hope), has nothing to do with health...IMO, it is all about him losing his voice a year and a half ago, and they are just so inept at telling the truth on this. Lying to cover up other lies are just worsening the situation. If they would have played it straight last year, admitted the vocal problems, the tape issue would never have come to be....fix the voice, or let him go when the tour was over, replace him prior to embarking on the tour, and do it right. Now they are spinning like tops on the deck of the Titanic.

How long was he sick befor Chile? Do you know? Maybe he needed the tiime off to be well for one of the shows, instead of messing up in Chile, and the next show.-ERIC

Whatever the case, shouldn't the Official Journey message board be privy to the truth?

Common sense tells me that if they are not informed, as it appears, then it follows that the prognosis is not good, either in a case of a serious medical nature or just a more permanent rather than temporary vocal incapacity.

On second thought... that would be giving the board too much undeserved credit, being that they always delete/ban anything/anyone that doesn't provide praise... including that/those giving constructive criticism.

I think the post is being pulled down as probably bullshit, rather than Augeri being pulled down, Eric. but I'm sure people don't always see it that way.

The official site is worthless, we all know that. Neal could drop over dead tonight, and the official site would never report it. A fan could post about it and it would be deleted. So I don't hold much stock in the official site.-ERIC
