O/T FLIGHTS

Postby Liam » Tue Jul 25, 2006 6:18 am

Sorry...but I just gotta vent a little here...
So my family are planning a trip to Pennsylvania in October for my sister's wedding and I've been left with the flight arrangements. That's not really the frustrating part. The frustrating part is..I've got my ticket and my fiance's ticket on hold leaving out of Houston for $218. Not bad huh? lol. HAD my brother's ticket doing the same thing and then he turns around and now wants to leave out of College Station. Extra $150 to do so instead of a measly hour drive to Houston which allows another hour to smoke.lol. (Houston is convenient as Monica lives there and I'm picking her up so we only have one car to pay parking charge at IAH. It's rather expensive there.) That added to my other brother leaving out of Dallas (not his fault on this) but the prices to get him there are in the high $300 range right now and a LOT of flights don't even go to Philadelphia...but to LaGuardia Which I don't get. I wanted to do this because I'm very good at organizing this type of thing when everyone cooperates. NOW...I'm gonna have to go with different airlines and departure and arrival times. (Hey...that's 2 Journey albums so maybe it's not TOO off topic.LOL) We were only going to get one rental car to save some $$, but with the way this is workin' out..I see at LEAST 2.
So BASICALLY...I was trying to coordinate this to where we can all meet up in Philly at about the same time, get the rental car, and get to the hotel. Let's hope that I can keep my sanity long enough to swing somethin''cause after this I've got to work on the rental car and hotel. YIPPIE. I hope this is the ONLY time my sister gets married, if not...the next one better be in Texas. LOL.

ANYWAY...again...sorry. I think my rant is over for now. We'll see. LOL

sounds like an algebra problem!!!
I think the answer is----call your local travel agent--and she can get that done much faster than you can...possibly save you some money too.

EESH...Algebra...No WONDER I'm failing. LOL.
Well the travel agent I talked to was helpful on the holding of my 2 tickets...saved me about $50 each on those...but with all the other stuff coming along today...I haven't checked back yet. I'll be on the phone with Continental by nights end to try and get this shit squared away. Workin' on the brother in Dallas right now...that's going a little more smoothly now...but the one here...Not so much.
Thanks for the tip though. :-)

Obviously you are overlooking the biggest problem Liam. You're flying out of IAH, that's a clusterfuck of an Airport, eh?

Maybe the solution is to pick the Brother up? surely it's worth $150/$300 savings? It seems awfully lazy if he doesn't want to drive and smoke for an extra hour, to not want to save that money.

Eh...IAH ain't as bad as let's say O'Hare (sp??) or Newark. Hobby's a LOT easier to deal with but it's a longer drive.

Well....one problem is SORTA solved. The brother that wants to leave from here is willing to pay the difference so it's not on my mom. So THAT'S a good thing. And I think I got it to where Monica and I will meet up with him on the plane from IAH to PHL. One problem almost taken care of...now on to getting my brother in Dallas to Philly. If I can swing what I'm trying with THIS one...it's all gravy. lol.

perhaps the people in Philly should just go to you. sounds easier. Houston Hobby easier? Maybe, All I know is it takes me about 3 days to get from Domestic to the International terminal, then they almost always change the gate to the last one possible, the furthest away.

Must be a nightmare for you... not sure how far away these places are but its bad enough for me when I organise things 20 miles apart, there is always one that wont play the game and put themselves out a tiny bit.... good luck anyway

Escape 79, here's the deal.

This is called yield Management, and the system works in "buckets."

For instance, I don't know which A/L you are traveling on, but my guess is you gobbled up the lowest fares in a bucket, and now that that fare bucket is full, the yield mangement is kicking in, and the computer is saying, "we filled the chep seats, and obviously there is demand for more, so jack it up from here." Pretty soon, that fare bucket will become full, and the next higher fare will be offered..Coincidentally, the closer to departure time, the higher the fare.

Easy solution. My guess is the airline you are flying, has more flights to NY than PHL. I bet you NY is significantly cheaper. I would fly into NY, and then take Amtrak to PHL. Hell, the trains travel at 120-150 MPH in the Northeat Corridor, and leave every 30 mins or so. I would have your lazy assed brother either pay his own Goddamned way, or fly to NY, and then all you can take a Metroliner to PHL. Simple. Dude, Amtrak has 60& of the travel market between BOS-NY-PHL-and WAS DC. And it's faster than flying.

If that isn't your cup of tea, try another airline, see if they offer more cheap seats (buckets). My guess is your chosen airline is popular. I am guess American, since you are going out of Texas.

Damn airlines is all I've got to say. LOL.
I seriously doubt my brother would go for the Amtrak thing...but thanks for the suggestion. I'll run it by him if he can't find anything. The one flying out of Dallas isn't the lazy one...he just has to work the day of the flight and wants to go from work to the airport, which I can understand.
The Lazy brother on the other hand, is just wanting to go from College Station 'cause he doesn't want to drive to Houston. He is offering to pay the difference to my mom, BUT...since I'm driving there anyway....just more hastle, ya know?
I'm just glad I've got Monica's and my flights locked down. (we're on Continental. American was $480 for some ungodly reason?!?!)

Again, Dean, Thanks :-)

Fuck it...Meet in the middle....How about Knoxville? Have the wedding, each party drives 500 miles, and get ripped watching College Football, and watching Fathers kiss their daughters, who just had sex with their brothers, who later that same night will pleasure his mom. Happens all the time there.

I once met a guy in rural Tennessee, and I asked him, "what you all do here?"

He said, "Hunt."

I said, "What you hunt for?"

He said, "Somethin' to fuck."

That's fucked up and funny as hell.

It is rather ironic that you mentioned TN though. It was a thought to have it in Nashville when this was first drummed up. Quite honestly, would've been a LOT easier.

It's about 1600-1800 miles away. Something like that. Starting to think Monica and I should just drive the damn thing and leave everyone else to their own devices. But I HATE other states' Speed limits. Ours is 70, so every other states should be the same. lol

Isn't there a flight from CS to Houston ... ? There used to be. Get your brother to fly to Houston and catch his plane there. I used to do that -- worked for A&M a few years back.

All in all, that drive to Houston is soooo simple, I'm surpised he won't drive it. I've done that many times also. It's short and sweet and the traffic usually isn't bad, especially early in the morning or late in the evening.

That's what he wants to do. There are flights from C.S. to Houston...but I'm trying to coordinate with mine, Sean's (Dallas), and Curt's (CS). THAT'S where MY frustration is stemming from.
Where about in Texas are ya now LadySl@ng? Or you outta state now?

Hmmm. You 3 fly from CS to DFW (or drive even), catch up with the other brother and make your way to Phily from there. :)

Unless, they don't do DFW direct ... I used to hit Austin rather often, then Dallas.

I'm out of state now. At one time I worked for the Eagle and then A&M. I have fond memories of B/CS. :) Wonder if that warrant is still active ... JT

I'll break into the mainframe of the CS courthouse and find out. lol.
Well...From what I've been workin' with the past hour or so...I can get Sean (Dallas) a flight to Houston (no direct flights from DAL OR DFW.) And Curt a flight from CS to Houston and if it's worked JUST RIGHT...Sean,Curt,Monica, and I can all fly to Philly together for a grand total of $1200+. I tried to look at Austin to Philly a few days ago...and those prices were just outlandish. Southwest has the cheapest prices MY ASS.lol.

Four flights from Houston International plus one from Dallas and one from CS -- all for about $1,200? Now that's a good deal. I'll let you book my next flight. I'm looking at going to Ottawa ...

As for the mainframe ... uh, there's probably some folks still at the courthouse who remember me ... that might not be such a good idea.

Morons!! Please read
Ive been here some time now...decided to sign up...this forum is riddled with repulsive, small minded, and small-dicked, (evidently), little toss-pots

I dont know who the moderators are here.. but they should be shot..... the language used here is excessive...and the abuse seems very personal

What Monker says is correct

There seems to be about half a dozen people here who are ignoring Andrew's requests...and plainly just not interested in keeping this forum "clean and informed" they quite clearly are just "taking the piss" out of Andrew..and have no respect for his wishes at all .....

It all makes for pretty pathetic reading, from an "outsiders" point of view.. I think a few have lost the plot here.... the place needs to be "cleansed" of the detritus, .. (I think the word "morons, was used..how apt..as the standard of post here is pretty moronic) and needs to be rebuilt

Adios to some of you I think, when normality returns

I wore a Ravens jersey to Veterans Stadium for a Eagles-Cardinals game, and got abused by the fans the whole game. I can't imagine wearing a Dallas jersey there.
