Once again, I am not saying he has RA. Just saying these things take time to find out and treat. What do people want him to say? "Hey ya'll, I'm sick as hell!!". That makes no sense.
Another thing about not saying anything is he probably has a lot of other things on his mind, like his family and his health. Not to mention he probably feels as though he has let everyone down. And, with the stuff people have said about him, he probably doesn't much feel the need nor desire to respond. Anyway, for those who want him back, don't give up the faith yet. With some proper rest and treatment, he may be back and better than ever. For those who don't want him back and have tried to help bury him, just think about how it must feel to be so sick, not know what the hell is wrong with you, and keep trying to go night after night after night. For those who feel it is so easy to just quit and not work, just remember it could always be you. Hopefully it never will be. Take care and Journey on!!!

PS One other thing. As far as the comments from Kevin Elson to a fan, I personally see NO reason to not believe those comments. Kevin has been with these guys a long time, and as I have said before they are a tight knit group. I am sure either his diagnosis was known or that is what his doctors are strongly suspecting.

Also some people when receiving results or a prognosis that could be life changing will sink into a depression.

That can see them retreating into their shell and not wanting to communicate with people.

I'm not saying he has depression. Just thinking out loud and posting my thoughts.
Who knows.
Time will tell, and they will tell us what they think we should know when they want to tell us. Or not, whatever they decide.

There's an adage which says, "No news, is good news."
Let's hope that's the case.

Ha ha, just call me Doctor Susie!

Depression sucks, and it can take YEARS to come out of the other side - some folks never beat it.
Dunno anything about Rheumatoid Arthritis, but it sounds nasty from what everyone has posted.

No matter what kind of health problems SA has,I think all he needs is TIME.
Time to get a correct diagnose, time to heal, time to get over the shock of leaving the tour....time,time,time.

I am sure he is under a lot of pressure and I have a feeling there won't be any official statement until the current Journey Tour will end.
So it's a matter of time... and timing.

Doctor Susie, one thing about RA is it affects both your lungs and vocal chords (could be a reason for the lung biopsy). And yes, I feel quite sure Steve has some degree of depression, both over his illness and the fact he is not on the road with the guys. It is like a stack of dominoes sometimes. One thing goes wrong and everything else comes crashes down shortly thereafter.

Yup, because as we all know, when Smitty and Ross were fired the band was sooo forthcoming with the truth, weren't they?

As someone who has been living with RA for the last 7 years; I can say (from personal experience) that yes, this is a devastating illness. No, I doubt the lung biopsy has anything to do with the RA. Yes, if he does have RA he probably will not be back with Journey as the illness can be unpredictable at times. Yes, he could easily fall into depression because it does change one’s life and can get nasty. Yes, it takes many tests to diagnose it and everything else must be ruled out. There is no cure but there is no way of clarifying what it is or what causes it- other than the immune system attacking itself. Yes, it is a private matter, but given the out pouring of sympathy and support that has been evident by fans, I see no reason why it needs to be “hidden”. Most that have RA can use support more than seclusion.

I think people would be more sympathetic if he spoke about it, than hide it. Then again, given the timing of his last concert, I am surprised ANY Specialist would come to such a quick conclusion when they are often reluctant to state clearly what the prognosis is (when everything else has not been ruled out). There are many more symptoms of RA- besides not being able to sing. If that’s what he has, he hid it very well. I would like to know what he did to cope and how he was able to hide it for so long. He would be an inspiration to all of us who have been living with the disease for years if he would share his methods.

On the onset of RA, it probably would have been too painful to even get out of bed for him, much less tour. The symptoms would have presented themselves before the tour and he would have been seeing a doctor before any tour. I am NOT saying Mr Augeri does not have RA, however, it all seems a bit sudden that the notion of RA is even being bantered about now. We didn’t hear officially of a problem until people started talking about “Tape-gate”. Then when the statement does come out we are finally told about a “chronic throat infection” that started the beginning of the tour!

I think the sound guy was careless and should have been very careful to make such dire comments to a fan about lung biopsy’s and RA. The sound guy reminds me of someone yelling “fire” in a crowed movie theater :!: Journey isn’t making any public statement about the prognosis (or possible prognosis) and neither should he. Then again, people have many reason for doing such things and many times they may not be entirely honorable or factual.

Slightly different. THEN, Perry did the firing essentially and I will never forget a direct quote from him regarding that situation. He basically said that the reason Smith and Valory were "replaced" was because the music was taking them into a more "angular" direction, whatever the hell that means.

Let's say Augeri did lose his voice due to a throat condition and he's technically on "medical" leave until he recoops (I really can't imagine JSS staying with the band over the long haul as good as he is). The band is going to protect him. Sometimes, saying nothing is better than saying anything. Look at Perry, he's said NOTHING for years and even the little that he HAS said has been totally misinterpreted by overzealous fans to mean something else entirely.

Augeri posts are really stupid. The guy tried and failed. After that, Neal and the guys made him a karaoke sound-a-like. He lipped...don't care who put him up to it. Fuck him and his "sore" throat. He fleeced me for 20 concerts. Cya.

So you're saying you saw 20 Augeri-era Journey shows, he lip-synched every one of 'em, and you were unable to tell???

Either he's the best karaoke singer in recorded history, you're really dim, or your allegations are total bunk.

Either way, you're in desperate need of new material...your shtick is way beyond old.

Hi ya Pebbles....

YOU need to realize that 75+ shows last year were 100% lipped. Yes, He got real good at singing to prerecorded material. hell, I have it memorized too. I could do exactly what SA did..guaranteed; except I wouldn't wear gay leather red pants, a loose fitting blouse...and I definetely wouldn't "woo" any women from BT.....

Hey Pebbles,

I know someone who saw at least 20 concerts and that person feels fleeced too.

If you were buying Coke Zero because there are no calories, and spent a thousand bucks on the stuff, and news came out that it was actually the Classic ingredients, wouldn't you be pissed?

Hey, if Augeri was a complete asshole...I wouldn't feel sorry for the guy. But by all accounts, that is not the case. I think he probably did the best he could under the circumstances. If he did indeed sing to tapes or whatever, the whole band and crew HAD to be in on it...there is just no way they could not know something like that. So they are just as guilty as he is. A "hired gun" like Augeri was not calling the shots on this. No way.

Roxx, moronic fans like yourself are the exact reason Journey never issued a statement. A few prayers over at BT, a love fest and some butterflies and the truth goes right over your head. I suppose they never faked a show? Augeri just happened to blow out his voice when Deanno exposed him. Just a lucky coincidence I suppose. Open your eyes dude. Augeri will never see the stage again. If they abandon him the allegations will never resurface. They're gonna kick him to the curb. Good, he sucked anyway.
