On what Journey song(s) can Jeff outshine Augeri?

Postby The_Noble_Cause » Mon Jul 31, 2006 11:07 am

I'd like to see him try his hand at "Higher Place".
The song demands a more husky gravelly Journey vocal and I think Soto has that in spades.
Every live recording of Higher Place I've heard has sucked (the pro-tooled to oblivion Vegas dvd excluded).
I think Soto can do it justice.
I think he would also knock "The Time" straight out of the park.

These songs are about as heavy as Journey gets and are more naturally suited for a hollering rocker, than a twinkle toes tenor.

I think Soto would sound great singing "Believe", don't you, Noble?

Agreed.

I also think he could actually do Back Talk justice. That song is so bad, but maybe Jeff could scream and bitch his way through it. I think he could do it.

Jeff would rather sing "Oops I did it Again" instead of that awful tune, Believe. If Journey never makes the HOF, Believe is the reason.

would it be out of whack to play a song that soto wrote? not on this tour with just 1.25 hours, maybe later,, a soul sirkus or humanimal ? heck the casuals dont know the songs on arrival or generations anyway ,, i think he could nail "loved by you " a bit slow,, but amazing ,,

That song is pure unadulterated dog shit, I think Neal and Jon acquiesced to having it on their album just to give Augeri the illusion that he possesed a smidgeon of creative control.
Terrible song....doesn't matter whose singing it.

Interesting that they are rehearsing "Place In Your Heart". It's one of the few songs on "Generations" that I can listen to, so that's my pick.

"Oops I Did It Again" is MUCH better than "Believe"....and I'm being VERY serious. 2 has-been artists. (Although Augeri is probably much closer to a never-was)

He will be back, stronger than ever. And at least he doesn't have to go on message boards constantly criticizing people.

Yup, and once Perry feels up to it, he will belatedly tour in support of TBF.
I just know it!

He's afraid to even show his face. He shamed Journey and will NEVER play with them again. Neal and Jon share much of the blame too. Augeri is done. Back to The Gap to clean toilets.

Good. Then go commit suicide and die already.

So do you think Augeri just suddenly lost his talent one day? Or do you think he has done irreparable harm to his voice? Nobody knows for sure, but I am hopeful that rest and/or surgery will bring his voice back. So sue me.

TNC asks; "On what Journey song(s) can Jeff outshine Augeri? "

Uh...ALL of them. Soto has more a more powerful voice and I think he puts more feeling into it than Augeri.

Dude, I wasn't even talking to you.
As to the question, will Steve Augeri sing again in a professional non-Journey related capacity?
I have no idea.

I am merely an astute observer of history.
Journey's past is checkered by duplicitous PR statements and half truths, and I feel Augeri's time with the band has simply come to it's natural end.
And no, I don't believe he is convalescing in some clinic in the swiss alps if that's what your asking.
I believe his tenure is over.

Maybe he will have a guest spot on their next album (ala Williams on Toto's latest).
