OT (hopefully): Worst band you've ever seen live

Postby Big J » Tue Aug 01, 2006 7:42 am

Stole this topic from the noticeboard...most here have seena lot of live shows, or so it seems. What's the absolute worst band you've ever seen live?

For me...I went to a Judas Priest show in '98 (with Ripper Owens) in some dank old building in Stockton, CA. The opening band, and I can't remember their name...Joe Blow and the Fleshrods...Crotch Dagger...Laughingcock...I dunno...something dick related...was SO BAD it was unbelievable. They were trying to do a speed metal deal, and they had some 300 lb. Mexican bassist who literally had no clue how to play, so instead of doing so he was challenging audience members to come up onstage and fight him. They closed with an attempt at Smashing Pumpkins "Tonight" (I think...) and then all flipped off the audience and left. And we werent that brutal toward them...I think they were just punchy from crowds that had been.

Also, saw the Keith Emerson Band open for Tesla and the Scorpions a couple years back...that was brutal too. Not that they werent great musicians, but Jesus, they were playing this ethereal LSD crap that went nowhere and it just was a painful half hour.

I think they were called Tripping Daisy. They opened for DL several years ago. Very weird.

I haven't been to a ton of concerts and I wouldn't say that any of them were downright bad...However, I saw Foreigner in the summer of '98 or '99 in Fort Wayne and they had some metal band opening for them. They seemed like a Motley Crue wanna-be. They didn't really play bad but it just seemed like they were playing up the party-metal image too much to be taken very seriously.

Joe Perry Project - 1981. Terrible, terrible vocals. People were screaming for them to get off the stage

I saw a local band called Scarecrow open for Kix in the late 80's. Horrible.

Big time band would have to be Whitesnake. Just lousy and super cheesy.

Van Halen, 2004.

Absolutely pathetic. Only Sammy was decent, and I think he was so tired of the brothers he wanted out....

The Vere Pipe when they opened
for The Bare Naked Ladies.
BNL were awesome but VP sucked
and to top it off the guitarist was allowed
to smoke on stage but those of us who were
outside under the half a roof weren't.
That peeved me a wee bit.
Hmmmmmmm guess it still does.

Tori Amos!

Or as Robert Plant calls her, Tarry Anus...

Took the wife to a small concert by her many years ago, and Tarry was quite the tormented artist, slowing songs down to half their normal speed, and taking huge breaths between songs, and flopping around like sideboob at a pig pickin'. I actually really liked her work up until that concert.

Two way tie, for me...

Ratt, opening for Billy Squier. They were terrible! They were jumping and running all around. I guess if you were DEAF, you might have thought they looked cool, anyway. I think they were just too stoned to play... 8)

Warrant. Jani Lane sang pretty much the whole time with his hand down his pants playing with himself. I never did quite figure that one out...but the whole band sucked. About 10 young girls in front got into them, though.

Get the f*ck outta' here. The reason Tyler can run around and not miss a note, is because he's a pro.

Yes they opened for DL in '96 for the Slang tour...Awful!!! I actually turn to the girl I took and apologize for what we just heard.

Yea, I saw that band "Jackyl" also, unfortunately. They opened for Damn Yankees who were probably the worst headliner I've ever seen. Which shocked me cuz I love Night Ranger and Styx. They played Renegade and You can still rock in America, the chorus' were all that were recognizable..Terrible show.

a band called WE, I saw them at Oberhausen festuival called Rock the Nation, they opened for Queensryche, Journey and Def Leppard. Volume was too much and a singer that was trying to sing but didn't get any further than screaming so loud you couldn't even pick the words he was trying to scream/sing.
Rock on !

I saw the Danish pop group Aqua (remember "I'm a Barbie Girl"?) at an amusement park once (I happened to be there). Jezuz they SUCKED. I doubt if they even qualify as musicians

I gotta say that my worst concert experience was Survivor at the Volunteers For America concert in Dallas '01. They played their 2 "Rocky" songs (Burning Heart and Eye Of The Tiger) and they where HORRIBLY off key.
One of these days I'll post my WHOLE Experience from that night. lol.

Huh???? Those guys are ALWAYS on musically. I've never heard of them giving a bad show. Now, Steve Walsh's vocals aren't quite what they used to be, but as far as the musicianship of the band, if they ever give a bad show, it's few and far between.

Judas Priest on their recent double-bill with Scorpions.

Scorpions rocked the crowd, had loads of energy and played a stormer. Priest went through the motions & were incredibly dull. I left half way through.... :?
