Sadly, I think the guys in Yes are starting to slow down. I have the 35th anniversary DVD and, while some of it is great, in other parts it seems like they are having trouble keeping up with the pace of the original tunes.

NP: The Doobie Brothers - China Groove

An ok track, I have nothing against the Doobies, but if I have to listen to Southern rock, I prefer Creedence Clearwater Revival.

Hmmm...I guess I wouldn't have considered "China Grove" to even be southern rock.

I haven't seen that DVD - but I'm not surprised that it was a bit sad.

It was a mistake to carry on without Trevor Rabin, I reckon. Yes kept moving forward in such an inspiring and ground-breaking way on "90125", "Big Generator" and "Talk" - but when Howe returned the band seemed to lose its way again...just like it did in 1978.

OK, then perhaps not Southern per se, but rock with kinda Southern blues roots.

Gotta disagree with you there. I love the studio stuff they did on KTA1 and KTA2. In fact, one of the redeeming moments on the 35th anniversary DVD is the version of "Mind Drive" they did. Granted, "Open Your Eyes" was a terrible studio album. I saw them on the tour they did in support of that album and, fortunately, they didn't play much from it. "The Ladder" was better and, even though they didn't have a full-time keyboard player at the time, "Magnification" was a step in the right direction, in my opinion.

Oh...I do like some post-Rabin tracks - such as "It Will Be A Good Day" - but overall - to me - the recent albums didn't come close to the brilliance of "Relayer", "Going For The One", "90125" and so on - so it's felt like the band have been on a downward curve since 1994.

"Relayer" and "Going for the One" are both awesome. I didn't care for "90125" quite as much but it's not a bad album.

Do you like the "Talk" album? I reckon they got the prog/AOR balance just right on that one.

Crown Of Thorns was a band led by Jean Beauvoir (ex Plasmatics/Little Steven) and Mikki Free (winner of Native American Music awards) and sounded kinda like powerful 80's KISS.... :D

Toy Matinee was headed by Kevin Gilbert (R.I.P.) & Patrick Leonard (Madonna writer/producer) with a band made up of sessions guys from Pink Floyd/Roxy Music/Sheryl Crow etc. The one and only album they made was a stunning example of slightly prog pop-rock with finely crafted harmonies & stunning songwriting. I definitely recommend it! 8)
