Good for Kelly Hansen

Postby Jeremey » Tue Aug 01, 2006 10:16 pm

Saw the front page where Kelly and Foreigner has taken some time off to rest his voice and recover from reflux & laryngitis. I wonder at what point that Augeri realized that his voice was going, if the concept of taking time off was even addressed, or if it was a more "chronic" situation.

I keep wondering why Augeri hasn't made a similar statement...

Well WTF's happening then? Already giving in to the attrition. May have to tune/tone it down a key like they did perfectly on the post opp tours w/ Gramm.

Hansen sounds pretty good on the "Juke Box Hero" clip on their web site and that's a tough song to sing. I don't know, I'm having a mouch tougher time accepting Hansen as a replacement singer than I ever did with Augeri or Gowan in Styx, for that matter.

I saw Hansen with Foreigner a couple of weeks ago and I have to say I was completely won over! :D

The guy has charisma, energy and superb vocals. In fact the whole band seemed to have a new found energy and rocked very hard 8)

I also saw them a few weeks back and Hansen is one heck of a singer. Great frontman too. Comes out in the crowd and stuff.
I am a big fan of Lou but this guy kicked some serious ass. Absolutely superb.

lou gramm defined rock n roll for years,, 70's and 80's,, was great,, i saw foreigner open for journey several years ago and he was bad,, real bad,, couldnt sing,, we didnt think it was him for a while because of the weight gain,, then i read about his brain tumor,, terrible,,

Interesting how Foreigner gets a new lead singer who doesn't sound much like there "classic" vocals and he is winning audiences over on showmanship, charisma, etc and now Journey has done the same thing....

Well, maybe it's because it was well-known that Gramm's voice had really declined and so a new singer was needed... with Augeri people only heard the NC show if anything... and Perry didn't ever prove that his was either way...

Well, I wasn't referring to the "why's" in any way. Just the fact that both bands had "classic" vocals that have now been replaced by people who do not really sound the same as the band's signature. And the audiences seem to be won over by the revitalized band, the energy of the love show, the spark, whatever you want to call it.

True. Alarmingly so.

Conversely to me his playing seems to be only getting better. Louder, more aggressive, he's treating himself to some shreds....

Augeri's voice is plain knackered probably due to to many shows straining his voice,Jeff is not temporary he is the new singer and i imagine there may be a gag order on Augeri just like the one Journey apparently had from Perry! Journey will move on and Steve will be left behind as Mr.Mime which is a tragic story.

We can only hope he still has some voice and can maybe do some Tall Stories stuff,i would love him to say 'look i was under contract and had wrecked my voice and they said use tapes'...' i was just following orders and i did not like it anymore than you do!'

I saw Foreigner last year with Styx and to me the vocals sounded "classic", I was actually amazed that they sounded so close to the originals. He is winning audiences over that is for sure but he dressed like he was Steven Tyler, I could care less about that but alot of people around me were talking about it after the show.

Augeri said as far back as his Generations interview with Andrew that after the tour he (and the guys) intended to take a summer off.
The pre-text was for family time with his son, which may have some truth to it, but I bet his vocal deterioration was a MAJOR factor, as well.
