Hot for Teacher

The Paul Green School of Rock, made famous in both the Jack Black flick and the doc Rock School, just opened its L.A. branch on Hollywood Boulevard, and we checked out a li’l student jam session last Thursday (along with teacher/Frank Zappa vocalist Ike Willis and members of the band Ill Niño). The next night, the young’uns played a gig at the Knitting Factory, where none other than Steve Perry came to support and was treated to an impromptu cover of “In the City,” though we think the Journey tune “Separate Ways” would have been more apropos.

Despite his appearance at the band’s Walk of Fame induction last year, the singer is still not in the current lineup. [Don’t stop believin’. —ed]

"PERRY AVOIDS BANDMATES

Former JOURNEY frontman STEVE PERRY refuses to contact his ex-bandmates, because he fears any show of unity will spark rumours they are to reform.

The OPEN ARMS hitmaker is determined to end speculation of a comeback tour, after his brief appearance at his Hollywood Walk Of Fame honouring in January last year (05), triggered hope among fans.

He says, "I showed up because the thought came to me that if anybody deserved to be there, I deserved to be there too.

"One of the things that makes it difficult to have contact with the members is that as a result of going the Star Walk of Fame and showing up at the last minute, some of the members have used that on some of their promotional radio interviews.

"So if there's anything that keeps me from contacting the members it's that it's always turned into something else and I don't to participate in that sort of thing."

Ah well, he/she is entitled to their opinion. No harm in that. He wasn't baggin' on the band. I think he/she would just like to hear from Perry again, in singing mode, as most of us would. Whether or not his high end is nothing like it used to be, he probably still sings very well and that would be worth hearing. In Journey though? That would be weird in some sense because of all the changes the band has been through.

Looks like that was put up on February 18, 2006. He must have been referring to the "thinking aloud" that Neal and/or Jon did with references to the idea that there were going to be "special guests" on their tour, etc., and then he had to "clarify" his thoughts AGAIN on Fan Asylum about him NOT being one of the guests, etc.

Well, obviously he had/has no intention of getting back together with his bandmates and in that, there's nothing new. Wasn't someone here saying though that this was the likely scenario...or maybe it was just wishful thinking?

Personally, I'd prefer that he does something on his own...if he's going to do anything at all. For me, Journey is becoming really passe, but then again, my tastes in music seem to have been in the process of changing quite a bit over the past year. I know one thing...I'm not interested in attending another Journey concert where only the "classics" are played - and I don't care WHO is singing them. Who cares? Talk about being stuck in a rut...

I want to make one thing clear, STEVE PERRY & JOURNEY will never perform together again !!! EVER !!!!!!!!!!!!

Too much damage has been done in the wake of Steve Augeri Joining the band, I don't hate the band for moving on, but they could of done it in a way that wouldn't hurt the legacy of the band....just like the cars did "THE NEW CARS"..they added class to a new addition...as for journey they failed to update fans, BIG problems are still pending for using the voice of Steve Perry during promotions, this is fraud, the fans know it, and now the courts do as well.

I could of been happy if they called it Journey featuring Steve Augeri, but they tried to fool fans by advertising it as Journey w/ Steve Perry, this is fraud at its best, I can't get into too much legal detail on a public site...

No hatred. We just see through people who claim to know things when they really don't.

I'm sure some of you have seen this since it took place around the time of his World Series appearance. I wasn't aware SP had done some volunteer work for Habitat for Humanity.

Unfortunately, you really don't know what you're talking about. Those advertisements were NOT governed by the band. I don't believe they tried to pull the wool over anyone's eyes. They recorded totally NEW promos featuring Steve Augeri and these were sent to all the radio stations. Whether or not the stations chose to use them was completely out of the hands of Journey. THAT does NOT constitue fraud at any level. Had the band NOT recorded new promos and just told the stations to use "old" music to advertise new concerts, that might have been different.

You really should understand the law and ramifications of it before you start making claims that have no basis in reality. Just a suggestion... :D
