You can make any excuse you want, but Cherone simply did not sound right in that band.
As for Red 13, I like it...and it wasn't like it was out there on a major label for everyone to buy.
The beginning for you maybe, are you kidding me? They did 6 or 7 albums with him before he died, the last being Highway To Hell which was a pinnacle one to their success before Brian came in.
In the beginning as compared to now, which is at the END...as I explained in the other post.
Not the point, talking voices not billing....you could call it Queen + Carol Channing, iit wasn't so much about the frontman fans just accepted it & came in droves to 'hear the music'!
Oh, please show me how you know WHY the fans showed up? You have Queen, you have Paul Rogers...That doubles their fanbase right there.
Um, huge difference in their voices, same differences as Perry & Augeri...although some call Augeri a Perry soundalike, I find it further from reality.
There was even a radio interview on AT40 where Peterik SAYS that is one of the good things about Jamison - that he sounds similar enough to the old guy to keep those fans happy, but has his own talents to take the band in a different direction - EXACTLY as what was said about Augeri. Many, many, MANY people still think he sings "Eye of the Tiger"...if their voices are so different, why would people think such things?
Sure, that is if they play their cards the wrong way & don't take advantage of a 'new beginning'. If they concentrate on an album that 1 guy sings primarily the whole album (of course I say let Deen sing a couple, gotta take advantage of that throat!) & management can get them a real deal instead of giving the thing away, they could have a chance at a new hit single. The writing capability there is monstrous, if not taken advantage of, yes, i see them with REO at another County Fair.
There is no way in hell you are going to convince me that Journey is ever going to have a hit album or single again. How many 'bands' from the 40's had huge hits in the 70's? How many bands from the 50's had a huge hit in the 80's? How many bands from the 60's had huge hits in the 90's? It's a VERY rare thing...a nearly IMPOSSIBLE thing...and it's compounded with your idea of changing their sound, and changing their frontman not once, but TWICE. It just isn't going to happen...especialy when Journey hasn't shown ANY interest in having a label in years.
Right, but at a 3 hour extravaganza, they have delivered the goods, on this recent one, people shrug the goods.
On their last tour, they had to CUT some of the new songs, and some of the pre-Perry songs BECAUSE the crowd just didn't get it. So, they 'delivered' the goods...the crowd was miffed, so they started deliverying more of what they wanted - the more familiar songs.
Augeri didn't sound like Journey either, his voice was a soft tenor who 'hit the notes' but did he sing with Perry's inflections, soul & power...um, no.
Singing like Perry isn't what I mean by 'sound like Journey'. He had a certain melodic touch that fit those songs. I have NEVER felt he sounded like a Perry clone. I have NEVER felt Chalfant sounds like a Perry clone either.
you're never gonna please everyone but the majority don't give a shit as much as the ones who spent countless hours a day here posting.
I disagree - they DO 'give a shit'...If they didn't, they wouldn't shell out $50 - 100 a ticket to see the band. When all you have left ARE the "I don't give a shit"ers, THEN you will see them exclusively at the free festivals.
And puhleeze...Sammy sounded like VH because of the guitar...think about the hits they had with him, Right Now, When It's Love, Dreams...you mean sounds like VH cuz of the keyboards right?
That's not what I mean. A HUGE portion of the focus of VH is Eddie. Not so much the vocals. So, when they bring in a rocker like Sammy, it's a natural fit. When they bring in a funkster, like Cherone - it doesn't make sense, and it doesn't work. If you bring in a metal guy to sing for Journey, it makes about as much sense as putting him in Air Supply...or putting Perry in Black Sabbath.
You misunderstood my statement of having the right...I referred to this right based on a bootleg or a review...you have NO idea what a Journey/JSS recording sounds like until you pop into a CD player therefore no right to judge what it will sound like before this occurs. That's like saying because it was sunny today it will be sunny tomorrow!
I have EVERY right to say it. First of all, I'm talking about the live shows so far. Anything they record is going to be about as relevant as Red 13 and Generations anyway...So, IMO, that is all a mute point. Mainstream will totaly ignore it, and it won't be aimed at them anyway.
