Hey Aaron, thanks for the link! I remember that video and Valentine. Hugo is def. better doing his own thing (not that he isn't good covering Perry) and as a standalone artist he's got more range of movement, so to speak.

I'm a fan of all of Hugo's work including Valentine and Open Skyz. I think he is great in Evolution and fortunately for me, they're local, so I get to catch a few shows a year.

I'm happy with JSS in Journey, tho!

Hey Aaron,

As you might have guessed I went to his Evolution site. He's definitely more 'real' in the clip you've posted!
I just think our tastes are too different to agree on this. I do like Trail By Fire and the way Perry sounds on this album... see... it's not the 'highness' of Perry's voice I love so much but his 'Sam Cooke-like voice control' (I don't know how else to say this).
Hugo doesn't have that, neither did Augeri... but Jeff does... a lot!

It's just a matter of taste... like all the rest that's discussed on this forum!

Finally got around to getting 2 journey boots with JSS, and I must say the boots don't do him justice. Now he does not have the Perry or Augeri sound thta is known for Journey, but he did great in concert. Sure I wish he had more of the JRNY sound to him, but he does good, plus he his a natural front man. The boots should not be used to Judge an act.-ERIC

iLex,

I think you're right, our tastes are a bit different. I think JSS does kick ass, he just doesn't sound like Journey. Its funny you mention Trial By Fire. I remember buying that CD on the Tuesday it was released, putting in the CD player and being immediately pissed off hearing it. :) I was hoping for a bit more rock and not a AC cd. My favorite Journey CD's are Infinity, Evolution and Departure. I suspect its because of Gregg's dual leads on some songs and Perry's stratosphere range on vocals. I bet we can agree on this, Perry in his prime, was the best vocalist ever. What do you think?

Differences of opinion makes the world go around.

L8r bro,

Aaron

Jabberwocky,

I'm glad you liked the link to the video. I think that Valentine cd may be my all time favorite cd. It really kicks ass! I'm with you, I think Hugo's own material is super. As I've said before, Hugo does Journey material better than Journey does. Now if Journey would just fix their fuckin problem! 8)

L8r,

Aaron

P.S. Dude, the signature is totally funny!

There is another JSS-Journey boot up over at Guitars101. It is from the DTE Music Theater on 7-24-06. I just got done downloading it, and then to extract them from the .rar file format they are in. Later I will see how he sounds on this one. :D

P.S. This boot has "Edge Of The Blade" on it. :D

Thanks for posting that... I have to say, the quality isn't good enough to make a fair assessment. B- sounds about right, maybe a bit less for the poor audio. Love the song though! I'm sure he rocks it. 8)

Dude - thanks for responding! I admit what I heard was a boot, albeit a great one. By the way, I gotta tell you that the first time I heard your work was with SS and you rock on that one!! I have both CD versions - with Deen and Virgil on drums.

Band biz, I don't discuss anything publicly to anyone, as well, even I don't know (or care) what's going on internally...Deano seems to know everything, you can get your updates from him, ha ha.

Gotcha and that's cool.

Man, it's gotta be one helluva cool ride to be doing what you want to do with topnotch musicians like the guys in Journey, night after night. I hope you guys will incorporate more of the lesser played material. Has Rubicon been done?

Thanks again.

Granted, I'm no expert, but that's how he's always sounded to me too.
