So how much did Cain Receive?

Saw Talledega Nights, and Faithfully is played prominently in a scene.

How much would Cain get for this, being the sole songwriter?

Big Deal. I love NASCAR and thought the movie was a "C" at best.

Lots of funny stuff, but not close to the hype. NASCAR, Coke, Old Spice and Wonder paid bug bucks to promote it.

Depending on how prominent and how long the song was played for, I'd say anywhere from $5,000-20,000.

I can't stand Will Ferrell. I think he's a complete moron and I can't truly think of any move he's done that I even remotely like. Wedding Crashers was great up until he made his appearance, and that just killed the entire movie for me

Completely negotiated between the publisher and the movie studio - Synch licences are completely arbitrary!

My grandma was the same way. She didn't like the Beverly Hillbillies, and was always ranting on how stupid and ignorant Jethro was. DUH! That's the whole idea! However, some people don't like seeing others make fools out of themselves. A friend of mine is like this. He told me that it makes him feel foolish when he sees someone else playing the fool.

I guess this makes you unique. Most people love this kind of humor. Talledega Nights beat its nearest competition at the weekend box office by over $32,000,000.00.

Many of the comedies starring ex-SNL'ers suck. Will Ferrell can be a really funny guy, but even this movie makes my "too stupid" radar go haywire. The trailers do nothing for me. Same for Adam Sandler, who plays a complete dipshit in all of his films except Big Daddy, which wasn't bad, and Happy Gilmore, which is over-the-top hilarious, and a flick he'll never match. Rob Schneider's first two movies, Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo and The Animal were freakin' funny, but The Hot Chick was lame (I haven't seen the Deuce sequel). Chris Farley & David Spade in Tommy Boy = good shit. The Great Outdoors was alright, but not as good.

And I didn't mention Caddyshack (Chevy & Bill) and Trains, Planes And Automobiles (John Candy & Steve Martin) because I shouldn't have to. Those movies rule!

One of the funniest lines in the movie was when one driver told Ricki Bobby, that they "got a Styx tribute band to play the wedding."

Busted a gut on that one.

And no, DSB was not in the film.

If I'm not mistaken, both Dennis & JY received payment for that commercial. I can't remember the exact figure, of course Dennis receiving more. Tommy was even paid a small fee too. I wish I remembered, it was like $250,000 or something like that.

I DO know that Dennis didn't want to get paid (he was offered money) for the reference of Mr. Roboto used in the Austin Powers movie, all he wanted was the movie poster signed by Mike Myers, which he has up in his studio.

I used to work for a publishing co. here in NYC.

Commercials pay significanlty more than film.

Deano asked how much JC received.

It seems that Sony still owns the master for Faithfully, so they took a huge chunk of the synch fee.

But you're right, $5,000 was probably a bit on the conservative side.

The first Austin Powers movie was on TV over the weekend. I love the part where Ferrell gets dropped into the fire pit and he won't die. "I'm alive, only very badly burned..."

Maybe Cain didn't get jack. Maybe Perry or Sony somehow still owns this song.

How could Perry own it? He doesn't have writing credits.

Perry seems to still have quite a bit of influence over the catalogue.
Who knows what his lawyers have done.
He very easily could have say-so over this song.
Who knows...

I would venture to guess that Perry, Schon and Cain own equal rights to most of Journey's catalog. I remember reading where Perry had to call Cain and Schon to get the OK to put DSB in the movie "Monster." I would also bet that Cain and Schon had to make HUGE concessions to get Perry to sign off and let them continue as Journey. I bet he was a real prick about that. And I can't say I blame him.
