Worst Journey song ever?

Postby Big J » Thu Aug 10, 2006 6:28 am

Probably a revisited topic I'm sure but these sorts of things tend to be ever-changing.

What is, in your opinion, the worst song Journey has ever put on a record.

Now, some caveats:

- No "anything Augeri" answers. If that's all you have to say, that's lame. Put some thought into it.
- No B-sides...album tracks only.
- No instrumentals. Actual songs. Don't throw out "A Few Coins" or something like that.
- Actual songs you think are BAD...not ones you just hate. I hate Who's Crying Now, but I know it's technically a good song. I just think it's overplayed all to hell and overrated and I'm sick of it.
- I'm staying away from the first three albums for my picks because a lot of them are too obvious. But, if you wanna choose one, go for it.

Now, my answer is:

Daydream. Annoying annoying annoying. Evolution is a great album, but this song sounds like they were short one track for the album and just threw it on there.

That's not one of my favorites but I do like it. Reminds me of the stuff on "Dream, After Dream".

My nomination..."Homemade Love"...The music isn't bad and it kinda rocks but the lyrics are dreadfully awful.

For me, it's a tie between Gone Crazy and Butterfly.

Believe and Can Do.
Believe is just a continuous loop of a crappy song.
Can Do just goes nowhere for me. Rather boring.

harder to choose a WORST song than a favorite song.. as 99% of Journey tunes are fantastic... walking away from the edge...

Almost anything on my Nightmare Setlist we all posted a few weeks back... I don't like Do You Recall, half of TBF, half of Arrival, Positive Touch... never a fan of Gone Crazy either.

Red 13 is a complete cluster fuck for me. Sounds like they cut it in 1 take. Musically directionless. Muddy vocals. Worst of any Journey album to me. Back Talk and Suzanne suck too.

I can't pick a worst, because the songs I don't like are pretty much tied. They are:

Lady Luck - Don't even like the beat.
Can Do - As stated - goes nowhere.
Back Talk - Closest thing to a rap song Journey has done.
Butterfly - This one may win because of sheer, utter, undeniable sappiness!!!!!!!!
Gone Crazy - No explanation necessary.

Honorable Mentions:

Troubled Child
Frontiers
Rubicon

The winner, after going thru my list is .....................................................

Butterfly - She should fly alone - to the dump!!!!!

Is Gone Crazy the dumbass one that Ross sings on Generations? If so, WORST piece of crap I ever heard. I try to forget it exists.

It's in my top three shitty songs for them......

Baby I'm Leaving you...
I don't like the sound of Journey trying to do reggae.

Homemade Love....horrid lyrics, I mean come on Jelly-Roll love..WTF?

Can Do.....This song just irritates me completely

Positive Touch is great. Although the sax in Journey is odd.

My guess Cain tho't he was the shit & liked to show off. Perry gave him a bit of slack as he'd had his way on so much other stuff.

I like Baby I'm A Leaving You.

I picture my wife dancing to this under some Tiki hut on a tropical beach, mini skirt with string bikini top, frozen drink in hand, enjoying life.

To each their own, of course :D .

As the old saying goes...

"It's got a good beat and you can dance to it".

Regardless of the words, it is a great dance tune. The rhythm is extremely fun.

Gone Crazy.

The only vocals I have heard that are as bad as in this song are:

1) Tico Torres (Bon Jovi's drummer) who sings the awful "Only in My Dreams" on the Bon Jovi box set. Absolutely dreadful.

2) Tom Scholz of Boston who decided he should sing on the song "You Gave Up on Love" on their 2003 tour. Unfortunately, I heard this at a couple of Boston concerts and heard a couple of boots where you could actually hear people near the taper laughing as he started to sing. His attempt at singing sucked almost as much as Boston's "Corporate America" album.

For us Boston fans, Tom's choice to only use Brad Delp on lead vocals on a few of that albums tracks would be like Journey still having Perry in the band and letting Ross sing 7 songs on a Journey album
