he seems to struggle with the high parts, although he does sound good, you can tell its not
easy for him....tough job for any singer for sure.

Wow. He really tried so hard didn't he? Sang his heart out. I was talking to one of the girls at work about him tonite. She's a big fan since his Tall Stories days. She put something in perspective. He was 38 then. And he hadn't sang in about 5 yrs prior to joining Journey. It must have been tough doing those songs. I feel sorry for him now after seeing this. TYVM for posting it. I would like to see more if u have time. Any chance u could put them up where we could d/l them?

Wow, Steve sounds great. Where did this footage come from? I have scoured every dubious source I know on the net to find a copy of the show but to no avail. :(

Wonder were this is from. Augeri seems fine there. Neal looks like the lawyer guy on Frazier. Gees.

Hey Im gigging tonight, will be in late..tired but still buzzing, so chances are I will while away 45 mins or so uploading a large chunk of "Remember Me" from this gig..will be round about 1AM UK time

For info: toward the end of the gig, Augeri says" This concert is beaming out into cyberspace, to the NTL network" ??????

Thats all I got to go on.

There is an NTL broadband network in the UK (Im on it) but no way in 1998, and not in the States.

cheers

He sounds brilliant on these.

But... as you say, there are some really high notes there that would blow out anyone's voice.

He sounded okay, not good. Anyone who struggles that much in a song doesn't sound good, they sound strained, uncomfortable, out of their range.

I winced a couple of times when he tried to go high. He NEVER had the range to do these songs. NEVER. Each time he tries to go up I quiver...

I will try look into doing this in the morning :D knackered right now, regardless, I will post up "Remember Me" on youtube in the morning(Monday UK time)

and Les..yes..I will continue to post up more songs.... I will have more time in the week, so I will post up complete songs.... its just that uploading them onto Youtube is such a slow process. I will just start the upload, and go n do something else whilst it is "doin its thang"

Hopefully, by posting up, people will see that there was a time when Steve A was giving his all, and things were rocking along nicely. Theres a spot in the gig, I think after, Open Arms, or maybe Send Her My Love, that Jon Caine listens to the applause that Steve A is getting from the crowd, and says "Listen, they love you man!!" which illustrates how pleased the band were with how it was all working out.

cheers

Aaaah, Knoxy, dont agree my friend, I will say that a lot of stuff is at the edge of his range, but he made all the notes he was asked to reach, right throughout the gig, he didnt fudge any by choosing a "lower" melody line, he went for them all, and got em. Ok, there is a "Power-loss" compromise when hes at the upper limit, but thats just the way it is for a lot of vocal high flyers, take Hugo for instance, he reaches the notes, but the results are very very thin.

After watching all of this gig Ive re evaluated my views of Augeri. He was doing the stuff in his own way at this point, he has a touch of the Perry's for sure, but there is a little something of his own there too. kind of like a Perry meets Chalfant kinda sound. At the end of the day, if you think Augeri wasnt up to it then, you have to throw doubt on Schons, and Cains ability to judge the merits of a fellow pro singer, and I just dont buy that they would go with someone who couldnt do the material any justice, they are far too pro and savvy, as well as experienced to take a "misfit" on board. !!

Pity this gig never made it out of its box, as its a cool testament to the great choice they made in Augeri at that time

I still question them - nothing wrong with that - it's still a free country last I checked. I can't stand Jennifer Aniston or Sarah Jessica Parker, either. Anyone want to tell me I don't have the right to question their acting abilities either?

Augeri is also one of the weakest front men I have ever seen. ZERO charisma. When he does that silly "dance" or "wiggle" that the sheep love, he looks like a switch hitter.

Journey needs a Power voice. You said it yourself, he loses power in the upper range.

Now, I really think Augeri's voice sounds alright when he is not croaking the high stuff. I enjoy "kiss me softly". They should have had him sing like this the entire time. Different, and actually good.

If you like it, more power to ya. Croaking and straining doesn't sound "good" to me. It sounds "passable". For Journey, that is not enough.

Going by the way some people here go on it's probably better if he doesn't come back.

I bet it's a lot less hassle selling jeans/scrubbing bogs/whatever he did there.

You are a cruel fuck. If Augeri is done, ok. But he was the reason Journey didn't stay stalled by Perry another 10 years, and from all indications Augeri is a good guy and a class act. No reason to wish him ill. Some people are just cruel. :x

Who cares if he works for The Gap or not. If it pays the bills and he enjoys working there, it's all that matters.
