The answer is neither.

Bring on the immaculate golden pipes of Kevin Chalfant!
He was alway's Herbie's #1 choice anyway.

I go with Steve. JSS is an extraordinary talent and as a fan I'm thankful for the extra exposure this has given him. But I don't think the rigors of singing this catalog night after night are the best thing for him.

I'd hate to see the guy lose his voice doing this, and you can hear the strain he's having trying to hit all these high notes. Unless they tune down, it ain't gonna work. I don't see them doing that...and if they do, they need to go get Perry.

If Steve is physically able to sing again, he's a better fit and deserves the opportunity to return.

Have not yet seen or heard JSS with Journey. Will be checking them out on the 26th. However, with that said, I tend to agree with TNC about Chalfant. I really feel they need a voice closer to Perry's style. I could be wrong and JSS may change my mind when I see them. I guess the Jury is still our with me. :?

Hey NB- Why do you say he was Herbie's choice? I haven't heard that before.

Herbie doesn't speak out that much, but on the two occassions he has, he's made it emphatically clear that KC was his choice.
Just a few months ago in an interview with ClassicRockRevisited.com, Herbie stated,

"I would have worked with the band again and taken a singer like Kevin Chalfant on....he’s a considerably better singer than Augeri -- might not look as good, doesn’t look bad, but he can really sing."

He's echoed similar sentiments in this interview, as well.

I like JSS. Just seeing the pics of Neal all sweaty and smiling has made me happy with the bands choice to bring him on board. JSS brings a new energy that I think people are seeing. I like Steve Augeri. He has always seemed to give everything he had to his performance. The entire, I don't even know what to call it...., I'm sad that Steve's voice is not what it was, I really like him. Journey is my favorite band and I would like it if they stayed around a little longer. There is no other performer that grabs me like Neal Schon does. Whatever he does, I will pretty much follow and give it a shot. I've said it before- I would have been happy with a Journey hiatus and a Soul SirkUS tour this season. To me- no Neal = no Journey, plain and simple.
Until we meet again, may God

Go to Guitars101.com then "Forums" then "Bootlegs- Other Bands" and scroll through. Lot of Journey boots on there.
Enjoy :-)
