That's because Perry wouldn't. He wouldn't actually fire Herbie either. He had Cain do it.

My point is...Schon and Cain are just as 'responsible' for the material and many of the key decisions after Frontiers.

You mean, they were held over a barrel. They weren't IN on those "decisions." They were essentially railroaded into doing what Perry wanted them to do. Why is that so hard to understand, Matthew? I'm not trying to be antagonistic or sarcastic, so please don't take it that way. I'm simply stating that Perry had a tremendous amount of power and the guys knew it. You don't just stand up to Steve Perry and tell him, "No." Gregg Rolie did that for years and finally left the band because he couldn't/wouldn't continue to take it on the chin.

Anyone who thinks JSS is going to breath anything novel or relevant into Journey is delusional. Why would a guy who had a true bonafide career ESPECIALLY a 40 year old rocker give that up knowing the loyalty( or lack thereof) factor of Cain and Schon? Eat 'em up spit 'em out. Why would he want to perform material so indelibly stamped by someone else? Perry knew exactly who and what he was dealing with. He was savvy enough to control his destiny.
Anyone who is cynical about that is just suffering from a case of the green eyed monster.

JSS may be performing the songs on stage, but you won't hear his voice on those same songs on the radio or CD. Perry is ALL over the air waves nearly 30 years later, a fascinating enigma, revered and controversial as ever.

Are you saying that Cain and Schon wrote the material on "Escape", "Frontiers" and "ROR" against their will? Yes, Perry was the driving force and Schon and Cain allowed this because of the spectacular success of Perry's strategy...but I really can't believe that Schon and Cain were entirely passive and reluctant participants in the process.

Rollie left by his own admission because he was tired of the rigors of the road and wanted his "own" family. He had made enough money, had enough success to sustain that. That was the overriding factor, not Perry. He was ready to leave no matter who was fronting the band. I'm sure he had "issues" with SP, but he was ready to move on.

Perry gets enough blame. Rollie was not one of his supposed "victims".

If the rest of them couldn't exercise their backbone, whose fault was that? Again, none of us were there so we don't know the Big Picture. It's all conjecture and so 10 years ago!

I would love to know if Rolie regrets leaving the band now. Has he ever said anything about that?

I would doubt it. He'd already had his taste of fame, first with Santana and then again with Journey. From what I've seen in interviews, I don't think he regrets it at all.

HUGO IS THE ANSWER

Postby mack » Thu Aug 17, 2006 10:00 pm

If they want a great substitue until Augeri gets better, why don't they give HUGO a tryout.
As great a singer as Soto is, he is not right for this band.
At least give the fans the sound they want until Steve can come back. It will make for a great show.
HUGO is definitely the guy for this, he is doing a Journey tribute band now. Check out his website at journeyshow.com
It would be a story just like the movie Rockstar, guy gets to live out a dream.
(Soto could appreciate a story like that)

"A few Good Journey men."

NS: You want answers :?:
SJ: I think I'm in titled to them :!:

NS: You want answers :?: :?:
SJ: I want the damn truth :!: :!:

NS: You cant't handle the truth:!: :!: Saint John you live in "Journey's (MY) world" full of guitar riffs and more riffs without awesome vocals. And those vocals no one has been able to fill them, no matter how many singers I bring none will equal to the likes of Perry. Who's gonna do it :?: You :?: You, Saint John :?: I have a greater resposability a responsability to serenade yours and evryone elses mother by hitting awesome riffs. Riffs that not any guitar player has nowadays that's why I am considered the best but not yet a house hold name. Damn do I want to be a household name badly :!:  You weep for Perry and curse the replacement and the replacement of the replacement. You have that luxury. You have that luxury of not knowing what Jon & I know ImageThat while Perry's departure while tragic  , probably opened up opportunities for the regular common blue collar Joe ( Agueri/Gap). And my existance while it is great and incomprehensable to you, keeps the Journey going. You don't want the truth. Because deep down, in places you don't talk about it at bootleg parties, You want Perry on stage, hell we need Perry on stage whether Jon and I admit to it in public or not :!:

NS: We use words such as integrity, loyalty, we use them words as the backbone of our lives spent defending my Journey. You and everyone else use them as punchlines. Jon and I have neither the time nor the cojones to explain ourselves to mankind. The exact same men whom rise and sleep under the same musical blanket of the very music Jon and I provide, then question the manner in which we provide it :!: Othrwise, I suggest you pick up a mic and command the stage. Eitherway, Journey ( Jon & I ) don't give a damn what you are entitled to :!: :!:

SJ: Neal did you all plug in Agueri :?:
NS: We let the Journey continue :!: :!:

SJ: Did you all plug in Agueri :?::?:
NS: You damn right we all plugged him in otherise we would have to kiss ass to Perry and frankly my dear I am too old and dumb for that, but not for my guitar! I love my guitar! Oh, and Jon loves his whale and the ladies that sit on it too. How's that for the truth :?:

Ok I may be out of line or possibly out of my mind too!:?
Sorry to bore you all but I just got through watching this damn movie " A Few Good Men". It just goes to show that I got to start doing something more productive like for instance avatar's reruns............ :P
