No shit! They cant win no matter what they do. Maybe he'd like a singer who stood on his head?

Can you define "mugging" tho? Runnin' around the stage?

Maybe he held up a gun and demanded the audience's money. That's mugging to me.

Actually they probably mean that he acted full of himself or cheesily-excited onstage.

Ugh. He's a FAN. He's a 40 yr old guy in rock. I bet a lot of 40 yr old guys in rock are fans of Journey. Said himself he was influenced by Steve Perry. It's exciting to sing lead for a band u were a fan of when you were 10-18.

And when I saw him he definitely wasn't full of himself. Very respectful to the Steves actually.

Re: HUGO IS THE ANSWER

Postby Aaron » Fri Aug 18, 2006 6:47 am

Mack,

I'm with you. Hugo would make a great permanent replacement for Augeri. He sounds great and writes better Journey shit than Journey does these days. And he rocks hard too.

L8r,

Aaron

As great a singer as Soto is, he is not right for this band.
At least give the fans the sound they want until Steve can come back. It will make for a great show.
HUGO is definitely the guy for this, he is doing a Journey tribute band now. Check out his website at journeyshow.com
It would be a story just like the movie Rockstar, guy gets to live out a dream.
(Soto could appreciate a story like that)

Consider the source. 1) he is from Utah, so he is an idiot already out of the box. 2), a mormon who is pissed because he can't have beer, Grey Goose or even Coke, not to mention uppers, downers and all arounders.

Hold up on the Utah stuff... Oh wait, I'm in the military, not here by choice and grew up Catholic... Ok, No Worries:)
I do, however, have some GREAT Jack-Mormon niehgbors that I get shitty with every night and 2 years ago we saw Journey play in the Ogden Fairgrounds Rodeo Ring, I shit you not!

No worries...Utah is beautiful state, with wacked out Mormons having 5 wives and no blow jobs allowed in UT...I kid you not....Legally, oral sex is a crime..

Anyway, how the Hell is UT called the Beehive State? I would call it the "Most fucked up place other than Wyoming State."

And Journey DID play state fairs..not now.

Yea, this state has some whakked out laws but... The camping this time of year and skiing in the winter is awesome. In 2 hours I can be sitting under the stars at 10k foot elevation, sitting by a fire and drinking 1 0r 12 cold ones... And NOT the watered-down, half-alcohol Utah beer; I get all the real beer on base! They even put big, orangew stickers on the base beer that says "STRONG BEER'! This is One Screwed Up Place! And I know Journey played State Fairs. Again, I had to go see them in a fucking Rodeo Arena that smelled like HorseShit :(

NOT everything...I don't believe he's even on every song on Arrival. His influence is hardly felt at all on Red 13 and Generations...not even close to that it was on Escape, Frontiers, and ROR.

I'm telling yah, it's all about the catalog.
These songs are timeless.
Neal could be replaced tommorow (heaven help us) and the touring revenue would still continue to ascend.

Of course it would...But, any tours that followed would not come anywhere close.

No the do NOT. Perry has taken himself out the picture.

Neal and Jon should have left Journey ALONE and moved forward with something else.

NO. Perry should have left Journey along and continued to be SOLO - which is what he really wanted anyway.

JOURNEY will always be indentified with SP

Read on...............

So what? Some writer liked DL better then Journey? I do agree with the bit about Journey being at the state fair in five years...actually, I think they'll be performing the same venues as Styx, if Journey is even together.

If you want the really hard stuff in Utah, you have to go to the State Liquor store to get it. Times to go is between 10 am and 7pm, and no hard liquor on Sundays and Holidays. I know this because I lived in Utah for about 3 years. But I had to move back to my homestate of California to be closer to family. :D

Wasn't Augeri either. It's still all about the Dirty Dozen. If they didn't play the classics and stuck to strictly Augeri led Journey tunes there would be less than 1,000 people there. People aren't there because of Augeri, they're there because of the music. Also, this is basically a Def Leppard tour anyway. Journey is just along for the ride. JSS is certainly breathing new life into the band though.

Get the fuck over it - HE was the one in the band when most of the current dates went on sale.

People aren't there because of Augeri, they're there because of the music.

And, Augeri kept that music in the concert goers ears for the past eight years. It was not Soto, and it certainly wasn't Perry.

Also, this is basically a Def Leppard tour anyway. Journey is just along for the ride.

And, I'm sure they are making some good cash from it. Hope it was worth it.

JSS is certainly breathing new life into the band though.

I see that nowhere in your post did you try to refute my claim that if they played Augeri-era Journey music only that they would perform to about 1,000 people. Face it, people go hear the songs that Steve Perry-era Journey made famous. Augeri was simply a medium between then and now. I suspect that he will hardly be missed.

So, your point is any decent tenor could have replaced Perry after TBF. Congrats...that is exactly what I was saying BACK IN 1998.

Face it, people go hear the songs that Steve Perry-era Journey made famous.

So what? That is why any future album will be released by Journey and not by any major label, and why they will never have another hit album or single...not even as successful as Arrival.

Augeri was simply a medium between then and now.

Of course...But, THAT version of Journey - with Augeri - is what led up to this tour. JSS had NOTHING to do with the 'success' of this tour.

I suspect that he will hardly be missed.

I think you are COMPLETELY wrong. Name some bands that have been around for 30+yrs who have replaced their version of Perry, and then replaced that replacement, and are still selling even 5,000 seats or release albums with ANY measure of success. It doesn't happen....

That's just a testament to how good the music was, how it has stood the test of time and how much Steve Perry is missed. You're right about future albums though. I think they're gonna have to really go into a new direction musically to have any sort of success. Something edgier perhaps.

State fair gigs are beginning to be big business nowadays. I remember when the only acts you saw at state fairs were the ones who more like lounge acts, like Elvis impersonators. Now, you can find even currently popular acts doing state fairs at times.

what a contradiction. If Perry was MISSED, people would stay away from the concerts because they want PERRY back. Sure, some 'miss' him...but not NEARLY as much as to give HIM credit for all the songs - as you want to do.

You're right about future albums though. I think they're gonna have to really go into a new direction musically to have any sort of success. Something edgier perhaps.

The 'direction' doesn't matter. Answer my question above...Name a band who had success doing what Journey want to do with JSS. As for changing direction...that's exactly what Van Halen tried to do with Gary Cherone.

VH - Sammy replaced Dave, Gary replaced Sammy and it blew up
Genesis - Phil replaced Peter, someone else replaced Phil and it blew up.
Bad Company - Brian Howe replaced Paul Rogers, someone else replaced Howe, and it went nowhere.
Survivor - Jamison replaced Bickler, Bickler replaced Jamison, Jamison replaced Bickler...and it has never gone anywhere since Jamison originaly left.
Little River Band - Farnham replaced Shorrock, Shorrock replaced Farnham, Steve Wade replaced Shorrock...and they had basicaly traveled down the same path Journey is going. After the original 'reunion', one replacement after another....and it has gone steadily downhill since Shorrock left the second time.
Find one that worked - anybody?

You're asking me to name a band that has been around for 30+ years replaced their Perry-like singer and had success? I can't even think of any that have tried. and the bands that you mentioned just are not in the same league as Journey.
