As great a singer as Soto is, he is not right for this band.
At least give the fans the sound they want until Steve can come back. It will make for a great show.
HUGO is definitely the guy for this, he is doing a Journey tribute band now. Check out his website at journeyshow.com
It would be a story just like the movie Rockstar, guy gets to live out a dream.
(Soto could appreciate a story like that)

Has everyone seen this same paragraph in other threads? 24 posts........ sheesh. Like Journey doesn't know about Hugo already..........

If they know about him, why don't they just give him an audition.
Who could it hurt??

Because he imitates Perry and that is something they don't want? If Journey wanted him, they would of called him. They called JSS instead, in which he is doing a great job in my eyes. I believe wholeheartedly that if Augeri doesn't return, JSS might be the next frontman, which can take them into other new directions. :D

He doesn't imitate Perry, he incarnates Perry and has been INFLUENCED by Perry his whole life.
Have you seen what he looks like??!!...it's a genetic mystery..he is literally his double.

The problem is, these other guys are not doing justice to the old hits.
Augeri couldn't maintain it and Soto sounds nothing like it. (they have the drummer sing some of the songs for God's sake.)

And let's face it, Journey has not had a new hit since Perry left.
So don't you think the fans would rather see somebody who can deliver the sound they fell in love with.
You mean to tell me all these audiences are there just for the new material (I highly doubt that)
So why night give them the best of both worlds.
Hugo can cut the Perry stuff and the Augeri stuff.

Let's not forget that Hugo is also a great writer, so maybe he is the one to take Journey in new directions!!

First off, do you know what "incarnate" means? Let me give you the dictionary meaning of it.

"Incarnate" adj.
1. (of a god or spirit) in human form.
2. in physical form: she was beauty incarnate
verb. be the living embodiment of.

"Imitate" verb.
1. follow as a model
2. copy (a person's speech or behavior) to amuse people.
3. make a copy of; simulate.

Now that the lesson is over, Hugo doesn't "incarnate" Steve because for one, Steve is not a god, and two, he isn't dead, so that word doesn't apply.

1.Hugo "imitates" Steve. He copies his mannerisms, his voice, on stage. And that is just too close for Neal and Co to deal with.

2. Even Hugo isn't spot on on his singing of the hits either. There will be no one that could sing the songs Perry sang, exactly the way Perry sang them. Even Perry today has to bring the songs down a few notches for him to sing them.

3. If you want to hear the Perry tunes exactly the same way Perry sang them, grab a cd and listen to that!

4. I don't mind hearing JSS sing the songs that Perry made hits. At least JSS is his own man and he bring his own fresh spin to the songs. JSS isn't out there trying to imitate Perry.

5. Roll with the changes. Things are not going to be the same way you want them. Times change, people change. It is the way life is. :D

Thanks for the lesson, however I meant what I said.
First of all you don't have to take it literally, but on the other hand, some people think Perry is a god

But all that is niether here nor there, I happen to like JSS very much!
However, in this band, it sounds like he is doing bad Karioke

Listen, these are just my opinions...the fans who buy the tickets tell the story..if they dig what Jouney is doing, so be it.
I just think that people would be blown away by the combination of Hugo with Neal and Jonathan...they would be getting Perry without all the personal problems they had with Perry

Oh, and p.s I aplogize for the postings on all the strings, I was not sure how this worked as I am pretty new at it.
I wasn't trying to be a dick or a "troll" as somebody called me earlier.

If Hugo didn't have long hair and wore tails, he would look like just a "regular" guy.

But if Journey took him on I think they would get a lot of criticism... look how much they got (and still get) when people thought Augeri was a "clone".

Gotta agree with Fire.

Hugo, although good at what he does, is not the answer Journey is looking for.

Soto may ver well hit the nail on the head.

Neal and Jon discussed HUGO when Perry left. They both decided it was just too creepy. And HUGO would have validated the arguments from the Perryionlies that Journey was trying to fool their audience into think Perry was still there. The idea was to find someone who could do justice to the classic material while able to lead Journey in a new direction. But Neal and Jon found that to be more difficult than they first thought. And IMO they didn't want to work that hard. So they decided to rest on the Dirty Dozen and destroy another singer's voice...

I just don't see why you people even waste your keyboard strokes typing this shit out?

Jeff is the NEW lead singer. Augeri is unemployed.

Sorry it's harsh, but it's 100% unadulterated truth.

Deal with it.

It should've been Hugo!
It should've been Chalfant!
It coulda been great if Perry and Neal and Jon all got in one big circle-jerk, drank the blood of 16, vestile virgins and made a pact with the Devil to stay together forever and ever...

Tiger Beat mag is still around? I like that JSS is fronting the band now. I like his spin on Journey songs.

It is others who come out of nowhere who are saying that Hugo should of been called, etc........

I just had to say something to them.............

Steadily declining record sales, poor concert attendance( comparable to SP days) waining interest by the public in general(not the handfull of post perry fanatics) Huge continuing interest in perry era journey material as evidenced by new interest in "DSB" which pushed that album to "diamond" status, the fact that the "81 houston dvd just went "platinum"(in less than a year) and a steady rise of daily new interest in SP as evidenced by a surge of new registrations on every major perry board out there(whether he does anything or not!) And last but certainly not least this lead singer debocle. The facts speak for themselves!

Always love the declining album sales statement as a reason of popularity when it is pretty well substantiated by the industry that for the most part 40 somethings don't by albums, teenagers do. and today more of the teenagers are downloading opposed to buying cd's

And, what exactly has changed today, wtih JSS?

You know, it's funny, back when Augeri was hired...we were hearing all the same lines...

He's someone I can work with.
Tall Stories was a rocked up version of Journey.
he sang "Open Arms" and blew us away.
he has the right attitude.
We have somebody who wants to work.
We are a BAND now.

...and on, and on , and on...

Now, we are to believe from JSS fans, cuz Journey ain't talkin', ALL THE SAME LINES.

Look, the fact of the matter is. You can't sing Journey classics in head voice, and falsetto all day long... and expect to be picked as a Journey frontman. You need somebody like JSS, somebody who can sing properly.

I don't know what comes over people when they see/hear Hugo.
Maybe they get swept up in the overwhelming experience of it all.
Since he also looks like Perry, maybe people fail to listen as intently to the vocals.
He does not sing in his full voice as far as I can tell.
Jeremy is the genuine artifact though.

JSS will simply say, add a solo tonight, take out Only the Young....He has balls.

Look, the lead singer should call the shots....BUT, he better deliver too...JSS has a nutsack like no other...He will not succumb to idiotic touring exhaustation.

Yeah you noticed it aswell, well I suppose being at a concert you might just enjoy it. Anyhow, Jeremy is a great singer, he has full voice, it sounds deep, rich, powefull aswell - obviously alot of practice and hardwork to get there, its payed off though ! :)
