OT: JSS doing Freddie songs

Postby ArnelRox » Sun Aug 20, 2006 7:31 am

I was going thru some of the YouTube Queen songs JSS does. I am so completely impressed. I've heard an awful lot of people try to do Freddie songs & not one other person even came close to doing them justice (with the exception of Chris Daughtrey from AI who did a great version of Innuendo). JSS is so far superior to Paul Rodgers. When I hear the Paul Rodgers versions I'm just struck by the feeling that never shoulda happened. I understand from a marketing viewpoint why they chose Rodgers but I really feel they should have gone with JSS. I adored Freddie & never wanted anyone to replace him but I would go see JSS do his songs ANY DAY. He gives them exactly what they need.

Anyway I was wondering if anyone has any other videos/recordings of him doing Queen songs? Did he ever do Bohemian Rhapsody for example or any others not up on YouTube yet? Thanks.

Really? No offense AR. But I just listened to a little of 2 video clips & I was screaming at the monitor for them to stop. I listened to Bohemian Rhapsody & I wanted to cry. I was critiquing Under Pressure big time. Not that I could even come close to doing them of course. But that guy was trying too hard to be Freddie & not pulling it off. Hugo does a much much better Perry from what I've seen on his site. One of the Journey cover/tribute bands I saw in in CA a coupla yrs ago sounded kinda like this band doing Queen. Weak thin and too phoney but not phoney enough to pull it off.

Glad u enjoyed them tho. I'll take JSS anyday doing this music. He brings the right emotion just like Freddie did.

The clips don't do what I saw justice. They are fine, but I think your being a bit harsh. That's cool though, we all hear things differently. The people that went with me are hardcore Queen fans, and thought the video stuff was "ok". They were convinced though after seeing them in person.

When I hear a tribute band, I take it for what it is worth. They aren't recording artists, they are there to entertain me for an hour and a half. This guy is supposed to be trying too hard to be Freddie. :D

I am too harsh. Ur right. Freddie is sacred to me-a Persian Prince. Ive been a Queen fan longer than a Journey fan. And I'm really critical about anyone doing his music as I admitted in my 1st post. Thats why I was so taken w/JSS doing it. But that's my ears. We all do hear things differently. I'm glad you shared about them tho. Someone else might really enjoy them.

JourneyRox - see my post in the JSS/Talisman/Soul Sirkus forum. Freddie is sacred to me also, and even more so to my hubby (he's not nearly as much into music as I am, only bands he worships are Queen and the Eagles). But he watched the JSS video with me last night (my third time that day) and was COMPLETELY blown away. Also made the comment 'that guy is way too good for Journey' (his words, not mine, he's never been much of a Journey fan). Anyway, yes - JSS does Bohemian Rhapsody and it's terrific. I will try to figure out how to put some clips on You Tube tomorrow since I'm headed off to an all night blues festival right now - but if you can find the Live at the Queen Convention DVD, get it! Best purchase I've made in a long while.

Thank u honey! Still no Bohemian Rhapsody in there that I can see. Did he do that? Is it on the CD or the DVD? I'm confused & it's late.

lmao!

man, you need to get that JSS online store up, iLex! My wife is starting to sound like the ladies in this forum. You guys are missing out on some definite lust dollars, lol.

and i hate to admit it, but I'd love to see the 2003 convention DVD myself. I know I'm a broken record on this, but I'll never get how he's not fronting Queen. Great for Journey, but it still makes no sense....

Just to add, Jeff reminds me on his delivery of the Queen songs of Gary Cherone's performance on the Freddie Mercury tribute show at Wembley. That is a compliment, because I thought Extreme stole the show that day.

Added note: JSS seems like a really cool dude. Love the interaction with the crowd on this show.
