Augeri's Appeal???

Postby Blueskies » Tue Aug 22, 2006 7:27 am

...Could you explain to me what Augeri's appeal was??? Other than being a "nice" guy and and taking the heat well for not being Perry?? I saw him and the band in the very beginning of his joining at a very small venue in Atlanta...when he had a voice to sing, and I was right in front of him. I thought he did a decent job of it at the time, but just could not take the nasal sound of his voice. Look's wise, he didn't appeal to me either! Need I mention that irritating "wiggle"?? After that, I bought the CD's when they came out, listened to them a couple of time's...didn't like his sound. I lost interest in Journey after that, just listened to the old stuff. I thought I would check them out again this year just to go to a concert. I was'nt aware of the "tape" issue's or voice problem's at the time, so I expected to see SA singing. Right before my concert I learned he was gone and JSS would be singing. Well I gave JSS a bad review too, at the start, but there was an appeal to him that got me interested again and what has me more interested now, as his appeal has strengthened, to me. I am sure there are many other's who lost interest when Augeri was in the band, but are now gaining a new found interest in the band again, to see what happen's next.(MO)

For me it was "Holy Shit, Journey's back!!! And this guys kinda-sorta sounds like Perry! Holy crap, a new album called Arrival! Wow, this isn't near as boring as TBF; as a matter of fact, this is pretty damn good..."

Then I saw him live 3 times, pre-2006, and lost a little more interest each time.
Now, if you ask all the AugeriHeads at BT, you're gonna hear all the lame crap; He's so sexy and classy and nice and sweet and tender and ,OH, those leather pants and , Oh My, look at that Wiggle (kind of a tired gay man's impersonation of Shakira, IYAM)... I really don't get it either...

He was ok at the time but in no way worthy of the idol-worship he gets at BT, but to each their own I guess.

I like Augeri. I haven't heard a bad thing about him except from Deano. You other whiners don't count, since you're just on the bandwagon.

It's not a "wiggle" either, from what I've seen I'd call it dancing, and I also don't see how it's more "irritating" than any of the spinning stuff Steve Perry ever did.

I thought Augeri always looked suave and acted like a gentleman. He was a sweet guy and yes, he could sing (arguably at some points) well. He was such a change from SP's "diva" attitude. I personally would rather see a nice guy up there who wants to meet the fans than his predecessor who always wanted to be in his trailer. Some of you like to see a grungy metal singer, I like to see a smooth crooner. Different strokes.

Augeri gets a lot of bullshit here. People are so quick to forget how much they liked him a year ago. He put about 8 pretty good years into Journey. I appreciate that and I hate the way things have turned out.

I've been both parts supportive and critical since I've been here.
Go look it up.
Being a free thinking individual does not constitute being "on the bandwagon".

Ugh. You sound like a pre-pubescent girl fawning over Justin Timberlake.
Go change your sanitary pad, and leave the real men to talk about real rock music.

Sorry "Fire" Sympathies, but TNC is basing his anger against SA on the facts, and I have to agree with him, he knows the deal, trust me.

Okay, so Dean and TNC. Excuse me for omitting you.

Right. You hate women, they're your main insult, we get it.

So I like Augeri, so what? Some people like Perry, so what? I know some want Journey to be more "rock" now, but they have not made their living being "rock". Open Arms is their biggest hit! Someone like Augeri does that stuff well IMO.

Uh, okay, thanks, I know the "facts".

I do think Tapegate happened to a certain extent, and I blame the band as a whole... NONE of them are getting my business from now on. I'm not excited about the lineup changes and it's not an excuse for their shady practices.

Being "talented" doesn't give them an excuse either.

LOL that is the biggest pile of SHIT I have seen since Dean's avatar.

Steve Perry wearing a leopard print shirt and tux tails, sliding around onstage was in no way COOL. Maybe Augeri's clap-dance was not cool either, fine, but Perry was NOT COOL. Show them to anyone unacquainted with Journey and I bet they would pick Augeri's moves.

If you think JSS is just a grungy metal singer, you need to do your homework.

Er, he wears torn jeans and wifebeaters and sings for metal bands, where am I wrong?

He wasn't really hired to offer anything original, he was hired to replace Steve Perry. And until JSS offers something original besides his voice, he hasn't either...

He was great with the fans and though nobody could surpass Perry's vocal prowess, Augeri made sure to give it his all.
Personally, that was his appeal to me.
I also thought "Higher Place" was a great tune and convinced me to pick up "Arrival".

I liked Augeri because I was so sick of Journey being dormant. I thought the understated stage presence allowed Neal to take center stage more, and that is always a good thing. He was a much better vocalist than many give him credit for. The fact that he was able to pull it off for so long in front of a very critical fan base was pretty impressive.

The only thing I fault him and the band for is how things ended. His tenure though, allowed me to see the band live again and hear new Journey music. To Be Alive Again, Signs of Life, and Higher Place are a couple of my all time favorite JRNY songs. Even though, I don't care for Trial By Fire, without Augeri those songs would never have been performed live.

Time to move on with JSS though, but the question was asked and that's my answer.

Saying JSS is a grundge singer is as ignorant as labeling Augeri a former Journey cover band singer (as many have incorrectly done).
Do some research.

And until JSS offers something original besides his voice, he hasn't either...

Perry was SUPERMAN in the outfit you just dissed, trust me, you are out of your mind. And don't you think you got a bit of "Stereotyping" going on with JSS and his clothes??? Like I said, DO YOUR HOMEWORK! Apparently you have no idea of Jeff's range. Jeff could come out on stage in a flippin' pink tu-tu with bright purple polka-dots and still blow the doors off of anything Augeri and half the other lead singers out there are trying to do.
