Could this be the most lucrative tour for Journey so far?

Seems this Def Leppard/Journey pairing is setting all kinds of records. Surprisingly, the bands seem to be complimenting each other very well, despite the fact that Journey has changed lead singers at the onset of the tour. This could very well be one of their most successful tours, since the '80s stadium circuit.

If they can either get a hit song on the radio or another decent CD out, then who knows? Anything is possible. These days you have to work harder to make more money, or just have huge "Eagle" type ego's and only charge big bucks for your concerts. I don't feel that playing only your greatest hits plus one or two songs is the best way to go, but I'm not their management or in the band either.

Oh I think that $$$ is exactly why they're doing it. And not just the cash that would have been lost had they cancelled out when losing SA from the lineup, but all the loot from the 2nd leg, 3rd leg, and possibly a 4th. We'll see.

What I also wonder is what influence Def Leppard had on their decision to continue (w/JSS). Surely, DL could have gone on with the tour, but I wonder if it would have been as big as it's now become.

I'm glad to see Journey back on top (sort of) by selling out the bigger arenas with DL. It's obviously a win-win for both...probably moreso for Journey.
It would have been really cool if the tour had a few Saturdays with a couple more bands to do stadium festivals.

Well, considering when DL came through SF on the "X" tour they couldn't sell out the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium (about 5,000 seats I think) -- it wasn't even close to one. Last years DL/Bryan Adams tour looked pretty packed at the San Jose Municipal Stadium which has about 4,000 seats for baseball, but since everyone was GA on the lawn it's hard to say how many people there were.

This year... there are only LAWN seats left for Saturday's show at Shoreline (22,000 capacity) AND they're playing Concord on Friday (12,000 capacity) which seems to be selling well, though as of yesterday I could still call up seats in the 100 section. In the 8 years since Journey has been back out on the road, they have NEVER played both Concord & Shoreline in the same weekend. (Heck, this will be only the second time they've EVER played at Shoreline -- first being the Arrival tour) And there are very few acts these days that get booked into both venues on consecutive days (though 10-15 years ago it was fairly commonplace, god I miss Bill Graham...)

This with the following other shows going on this weekend in the Bay Area:

Friday -- Red Hot Chili Peppers @ Oakland Arena (sold out)
Saturday -- Doobie Brothers @ Mtn. Winery
-- Los Lonely Boys @ Concord
-- Train @ Greek Theater

Now, granted, there isn't necessarially much of an audience overlap there, but if I weren't going to see DL/Journey this weekend, I'd be in a serious quandry about which concert to attend!

Ennyhoo... my point is, this tour is selling VERY well.....

Hard to imagine, since they are splitting the high ticket prices with DL, that this tour would be more lucrative than the stadium tours they used to play.

I don't think it's the most "lucrative" tour they've ever had but it is one of the most "visible and popular" tours they've had since the ROR days. Back then, even though the band and music were in a wierd place, they were still selling out everywhere they went, sometimes 2-3 nights in a row in the same venue. I don't think there has been this much attention to the band since then. I know DL is also responsible for the success of this tour but I also think, by most reviews and just plain old fashioned word-of-mouth, Journey is becoming intersting again and people want to see them again.

I agree. Lucrative? sure. But remember, they are sharing revenues with the Euros.....

I bet you they made more, much more last year. They didn't have to share.
