Journey Bootlegs

Postby knox » Thu Aug 24, 2006 8:22 am

My wife asked me last night why I listen to the SAME SONGS OVER AND OVER AGAIN!!!!
I replied "These are new bootlegs of old concerts". She still didn't understand.

I think I finally understand why I love these old recordings.

(Take off your defensive hat here, Wigglers. This has NOTHING to do with Augeri.)

Perry was so good back then that you know you are going to get a quality sound with these old concerts. The question, in my head at least, is "How is this one going to be different from the other one?".

Such hidden gems as that "Patiently" recording, or the intro to "Wheel" from the King Biscuit show still lay out there, waiting to be uncovered.

Yes, I sometimes tire of the songs and have to take a break from Journey. However, I never tire from being amazed at all 5 guys and what they did from 1978 - 1981.

Thank you, those who labor to find these and post the links for the rest of us. That takes time and can get tedious, I am sure. I sincerely appreciate your work - Classicrockldy, cheers to you mostly as of late!

Can't wait to see what surfaces next.

If you're after bootlegs, head over to guitars101, there's always Journey stuff up and I've just uploaded a few myself.

I love to listen to as well. I really like to hear the little differences and the crowd interaction with Perry talking to the crowd.

You can also here SP butcher some songs too. Yes that DID happen. "Ask the Lonely" was often unrecognizable. The song was rushed and didn't sound very good live.

Of course that was later on though. The earlier Perry live recordings are off the charts!

That's ROR for ya...Seriously, I remember back in the day listening to the live concerts more-so than the album renditions. Someone told me once (and I believe them), that the band recorded EVERYTHING...Captured, to this day, is the best live recording of a rock band I have heard...in any event, it would be nice if the band opened up the possibility of making some of the archives officially available...maybe from the official site, or itunes...

Great post Knox! That New Jersey FTLSM one still blows me away, along with the Departure 80 one. Much thanks to those posting the concerts on guitars and the links here! Image

I have only one recording of Ask the Lonely from before 1986, but it's poor quality and some Japanese woman talks over it at the start lol.

The intro to Wheel in the Sky from the King Biscuit show is awesome...
