As far as current females out there right now, how would you rate the following, which are some of my faves to listen to:
Paula Cole
Aimee Mann
Vanessa Carlton (I'm gonna get so slammed on this one but I love her voice AND the fact that she is actually a Singer/Songwriter/Musician... something that is RARE in pop music today)

Vanessa Carlton is absolutely amazing!Love not only her voice but her piano skills as well.A very talented girl!

Paula Cole is also very good...reminds me somehow of a mix between Kate Bush and Tori Amos.I like her!

Aimee Mann has a very Joan Baez like voice....smooth as wine.Like her also.

Aimee Mann is one of my favorite songwriters of all time...Out of the 1,500 CD's I own, Bachelor No. 2 easily makes the top 20.

I didn't care for Paula Cole's "popular" album much, but her debut (Harbinger) and 1999's soul-heavy Amen are really good. (and the latter of which also features Tony Levin, can't go wrong there)

Vanessa Carlton is pretty grating. Also, she did the worst U2 cover ever. EVER. *vomits uncontrollably*

vanessa's Paint it Black was even worse :)

I agree on Paula though. Although it was "This Fire" that introduced me to her, "Harbinger" is my fave, still listen to that a lot...

This just begs the question:

Did the Music Industry think that the "Baby Boomer Generation" of music makers would just GO QUIETLY INTO THE NIGHT?

IMO, I don't think they knew what would be comin' down the pike 20-odd years later.....

I know Paula Cole from the Dawson's Theme....but that's all. What's her best album?

Aimee Mann? I really like "Lost In Space" album - even though I reckon she tries too hard lyrically sometimes.

Vanessa Carlton's "A Thousand Miles" was a great song!

My favourite new female artist is Mindy Smith. She's categorized as country but being fron New York she doesn't sound all cornball or anything like that. "One Moment More" is her only album so far - and Dolly has given it her blessing - even recording a moody new version of "Jolene" with her.

There's also Gemma Hayes...her track "Evening Sun" is deefinitely worth a listen.

I'm not buying the album anytime soon because it's generally not my cup of tea, but KT Tunstall kinda impresses me. Bluesy stuff...don't hear too much like her out there. And VH1 showed her playing live and it was kinda neat in that while her music's pretty stripped down, she was literally playing everything you heard. She had this weird pedal setup thing, where she'd hit a tambourine, hit the pedal, stomp, hit the pedal, sing a backing vocal, hit a pedal, then the whole mess is going in the background while she's playing. No drummer, nothing, just her. Kinda cool.

I saw that too...she's literally a "One Chick Band" LOL

I went to an acoustic coffeehouse thing once....one guy; one guitar...he had that same pedal thing....laid down a rhythm track and played lead over it and sang...sounded great.

That's a great CD, but I like her first solo CD, Whatever, even better. And I love all three 'til tuesday albums.

Any Kate Bush fans here? Either you love her or hate her, it seems. Check out her latest video:

Vanessa Carlton (I'm gonna get so slammed on this one but I love her voice AND the fact that she is actually a Singer/Songwriter/Musician... something that is RARE in pop music today)

Decent.

I will take Shania Twain, Kelly Clarkston, and Andrea Corr over all of the forementioned. Plus, the girls I mentioned are all smokin' hot.

It's Clarkson. And that shows you are not a good judge of talent at all.

Kelly Clarkson is actually another fave but I was embarrassed to say(I'm surprised at you, Dean) and I've only heard a few Corrs tunes... Live version of Little Wing w/ Ronny Wood is incredible! The only thing I like about Shania is that a] She's HOT. b] She married Mutt Lange and c] She Fuckin HOT :)
