I can't believe I had to type this thread title. Now Monker,in keeping with your words, Perry was the architect of many songs w Jon & Neal and the schulpture came with the way he changed up the songs LIVE. His big accomplishments was sticking to principles(especially in business matters) and being the Voice of the Century! Give it up,please!!! Look what was accomplished 77-83- 86-96. How many millions of album sales & ticket sales??????

Yeah, c'mon Monker, don't be such a "pissy wet blanket." Does that mean you've pissed on a dry blanket, or that the blanket is wet, like piss... :D :D

I think Perry's voice was phenomenal...and piggy-backing onto another thread, I think they should ALREADY be in the RRHOF, but I guess my vote doesn't mean anything. Dang. 8)

Ya know, yes Perry had a phenomenal voice - absolutely. But I know - and maybe I'm spitballin' here - but I keep coming back to the fact that those songs didn't simply appear in his head. They were created and I think the other guys in Journey (certainly the co-songwriters), deserve some of the credit as well. I know you think that it was Perry and pretty much Perry alone who precipitated those "millions" of album sales and certainly his stamp is all over it. But, it's the songs and musicians who helped create them AS WELL as the guy who sang them.

When I think of Led Zep, I think of Robert Plant AND I think of Bonham AND I think of Perry AND...it's a group who comprise the whole. 8)

Sorry, but comparing Perry to Michelangelo is simply insane. Michelangelo is not only 'one of the greats'. He created univeraly excepted masterpieces in all three areas of art he worked. The Sistine Chapel for painting, the sculpture of David, and Piazza del Campidoglio for architecture. NOBODY else has done that.

Perry may have helped 'architect' a song...but, he didn't do it by himself - as Michelangelo did. I wouldn't say ANY Journey song is univeraly accepted as a 'masterpiece', live or not, as Michelangelo's work is. Saying he is the 'Voice of the Century' is a huge exageration. Finaly, Journey's accomplishments are impressive enough...but other bands have equaled and even exceded them...and it is a credit to JOURNEY's legacy - not Perry's...and selling a piece of art doesn't make it great.

It might be better I dont know. If he is that passionate about singing & according to himself about kissing...can u even imagine what he'd be like in bed? OMG

Perry mastered more than just singing, he was originally a drummer and has been credited for great works as a producer and songwriter as well.
Who wouldn´t wanna write a song with SP?
Who wouldn´t wanna be produced by him as well?
There are lots of singers that comes by a dozen, but there is only one SP!
Journey is not just a band,it´s a way of life!

Check out Perry's vocal performance on "Patiently" and "Opened The Door" on the 1980 Houston show. Beggars belief. Speaking relatively, Perry was to singing what Michaelangelo was to sculpture etc. Monker, you do make me laugh sometimes. You always have a frickin' bee in your bonnett. You did on the old Journey board too. Don't you mellow with age?! ;-)

Before the Houston DVD came out I was espousing the wonders of the 1981 Houston show. I even sent Dean and 13 VHS copies of it. I will give Perry props for getting that film of Journey at its all time best on DVD.

Pick ONE of Michelangelo's talents...

Point is, he is no where NEAR as talented as Michelangelo...not even close.

Perry mastered SINGING...and that's it. Period.

Monker, you do make me laugh sometimes. You always have a frickin' bee in your bonnett. You did on the old Journey board too.

Nope. Just like a fine wine...with age it turns to vinegar...Kinda like Perry's voice.
