Augeri went through all the paces and you all are saying the same things about JSS as you said about Augeri at one time. You beat the Perry people into the ground about what a personable, friendly, easy to get along with, great, all around guy he was. Jss is just another vocalist trying to give Journey some credibility as Augeri did. Time will tell.

What I like about the situation with JSS is that it can unite people- who are willing to be open minded. There was too much (Perry VS Augeri) mud slinging in the past-from both sides. It needed to end. The bottom line is that we all love the music and I think that’s a good start for sharing common ground amongst all camps.

You know, what has happened here is NO different than what happens in other parts of corporate America - businesses, schools even churches. You have someone at the corporate level who might have been loved by everyone. All of a sudden that person is gone. Another person comes in and replaces him/her and the replacement usually does NOT pan out. It's the person AFTER the first replacement that is generally better accepted by the majority. This is often why churches - when a paster who was there for a long time and well-liked - replace a pastor, they replace him/her with a TEMPORARY pastor, sometimes taking up to a year or two before a permanent replacement is found. The temporary pastor is there to deflect any animousity within the local church and to help in the uniting process. Corporations do this all the time.
Maybe Augeri simply should have been dubbed the "temporary" replacement by the band and things might have gone much smoother, who knows? After a few years, they could have then asked Perry to rejoin. If he said "no," they could have then replacement the temporary with someone else and moved on.

Excellent post. Augeri was in a lose-lose situation. The landscape of music had changed. Let's say he came in and Arrival sold 3 million copies. Relative to the music scene, that would have been as impressive, if not moreso, than Escape's sales. And had that happened, people would've just started the "Escape sold 9 million, this dude's no Perry." Realistically, there was no way he could win. He took a job that made him a lot of money, did it somewhat well for awhile and then did something that made all the nay-sayers right. He had the opportunity to go out with dignity, but he, the rest of the band and management made an awful decision. One that most, myself included, will never forgive him for. As you said, he was in the eyes of most, the temporary guy, even if reality suggested otherwise. I think that is what Hagar was getting at. With all of the years he dedicated to winning over fans it's hard to believe he fell into such a transparent trap.
