This was posted over at Guitar 101. Always loved this song. For those that didn't get the show, here it is.

Great quality. If you liked the Arrival era at all, I recommend snapping this show up. Signs of Life is on this one too. :D

I thank u for uploading this. But I must be missing something. I have listened 3 times & all I hear is the poor man straining his voice. I am not bashing him. Maybe I hear something different than u. I dunno. He sounded really good on studio stuff. I admit. I loved his Tall Stories stuff. I know he was in his 40s by 01 but damn he was really damaging his vocal chords here IMO. I am no expert that's for sure. But he just sounds like he was really pushin' it even back then.

I just love the tune. That era isn't for everyone. As many concerts as I've seen, I wasn't expecting Perry 1980. I think the song rocks, and it is ok if you don't. :D

Ever notice the Cain piano sounds like Schroeder from Peanuts/Charlie Brown?

Do u honestly not hear the straining on "never ends" and some of the higher "again"s? I hear him going flat & really really really straining trying to hit the notes. I am no musician & no expert. But I been working around live music for almost 20 years now. I listen to the bands when they come offstage & say "fuck I missed this note". I heard them play back stuff & groan at themselves when they had a cold. I know what they look for in themselves & it taught me a thing or 2 or so I thought. I could be waaaay wrong I admit. But Augeri is really reaching here. Let's get Nora, Jeremey & NeilMacca or whatever his name is now in on this. Maybe they could give an opinion? Either that or I better get me some hearing aids quick.

Sure I do. Doesn't bother me at all though. I sing myself. I look at Augeri as a replacement, not an equal. I could compare him. Perry or Jeff to Ronnie James Dio and they would all fail. Dio is God, LOL

I just like the songs, and I aknowledge that these singers are human beings. In 2006 Steve Perry would not beat out Soto or Augeri. Doesn't mean he wasn't the bomb though - and the originator.

However, could Steve Perry sing any better in 2001 than this boot? Doubt it.

Erm that wasnt a Perry song. It was a song written after the departure of Perry. So I assume: written for Augeri. Should he be straining on his own stuff?

I think Perry on his own could beat out both Soto & Augeri combined on the same team TODAY. Not to say I don't think Soto has a fucking kick ass voice. But he aint no Perry. Perry has a one of a kind voice. Nothing is going to beat that. Fuck I'd put him at the White Sox doing DSB up against most stuff Augeri did in the last 8 yrs. A matter of taste perhaps?

I've heard the Raised on Radio shows and the solo shows from "For the love of Strange Medicine Tour". I will respectfully disagree.

Ever heard Perry totally butcher "Ask the lonely"? He does not have nails in his hands and a stab wound in his side.

I did post it once, maybe I'll do that again tomorrow. The version was just totally rushed and not good. Plenty of bands have done that though. Just saying that i have heard Perry shows that were not all that. He's still the man though, IMO.

Post it please. I have never ever ever heard him butcher it. I've heard him sing it fast & do it different. But I've never ever fucking heard that guy miss one note ever. Somehow he knew ahead of time he might miss the note so he put in a different melody. Fucking genius if u ask me. I have never heard anyone with that mastery of their voice. Read my sig. No he ain't Jesus. He's the next best thing to God.

I'll consider re-posting it, BUT, I am also a Steve Perry fan myself. I know the man is human, and I really don't want to prove a point when we are all fans of his. Much like I am a fan of Jeff and Steve A, and wouldn't want to bust their balls either.

Dio is better than any of them anyway, and Joe Lynn Turner is almost a god.

Yes there are better singers than SP. Sorry. Elvis is the king!

Maybe I'll PM it to you if I have a chance. The delivery of the song is rushed and not that good, Sorry, he wasn't perfect. Close for sure though. :)

Steve Pery could sing ANY Elvis song...in any key, etc. Sorry, but I can't say the same for Elvis. Check out his range...pffft. If, like Cher said, "I could turn back time"... Perry would embarrass him. Different eras though. Elvis was the best of his, as was Perry. The fact remains this: you can always name a person who could replicate anothers voice/song...at least to a very significant degree. No one comes close to Perry. Elvis impersonators are a dime a dozen. No one has EVER touched Perry-esque-Escape quality.....NO ONE.....EVER.

Excellent point. I have actually heard some kick ass Elvis impersonators (specially the dude in Vegas w/the violet eyes). But no is Perry. No one.

I love Dio but he sounded absolutely awful on the recent Holy Diver Live CD/DVD - really, really bad. I guess it just goes to show that anyone can have an off day.

Oh, and Steve A sounds great on the song, very controlled.

I completely agree with this. Perry could sing circles around Elvis.

But IMO Freddie Mercury was a better vocalist than Perry, or at least equalled him.

Elvis vs. Perry??????? TKO...Perry wins. Elvis dies due to a Ho-Ho overdose. Fuck Elvis...his peak was VERY short, his range limited and his song writing ability ZERO. Perry wins, hands down. And why the fuck are you suckin' up to roxx (pebbles) Deano? You gettin' soft? That dude hates you. Dude, the man wasn't called King for no reason....

Is range everything for a singer..?

Does it matter how long his peak was...?

Must a singer absolutely have songwriting abilities...?

Not taking anything away from SP. He was/still is one in a million....but Elvis was the King of Rock n'roll....
