Yeah, I was there, and I heard JC do the first solo. It almost took the wind out of my rocking sails.......

What I would like to hear too is Ross and Deen do something together............

Be nice to Jon!! You know he is only being kind and giving the vocalist(s) a chance to rest a bit. Besides, I like his playing.

Hey, been gone a few weeks, what I miss? ;)

McNeil wrote: feel hes "reaching" a bit here n there..... and Im convinced his voice will be knackered after a couple years of this...totally convinced!!

Yup. Still reaching on "Stone in Love". He's a bit flat because of it. Same with "Ask the Lonely". However, IF he takes care of himself, maybe he can gain a note in his range by singing higher songs like this and learning to sing the higher stuff correctly.
This is the best I've heard him on this tour though, but he still sounds tired. He's got more power than Augeri, but he doesn't have the range. Power is cool, but range is necessary as well, especially for this catalog. His stage banter is pretty weak to me "put yer hands to the sky everybody" and saying "baby" all the time sounds dated. Still, I like the soul of his voice. He's gotta little brutha inside of him struggling to get out! ;)

Um, "Keep on Runnin'" you guys CANNOT be serious that this is a vocal you'd expect from JOURNEY. Listen to the "It's Okay"'s at the end of the verses. SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Flat. This guy CANNOT do the job. Either that or yank the songs out of the set that he has problems with. It's horribly flat. Jesus, have Castronovo do those lines.
Decent set list, but the songs need to be lowered to accommodate the singer.

I DO like the power that the band's playing with. Deen especially seems to be hitting the drums much harder. They should always have this power, but the lead vocals are not going to work. They're better than they were when JSS first came on, but they're still not up to par.
NEAL- LOWER THE SONG KEYS AND YOU WILL HAVE IT ALL. If you don't, it'll be another singer soon.

WHY doesn't the band help Jeff out with this??? (or Steve for that matter).

I mentioned that when I commented on Concord.

I have no problem with Jon or his solos, but if they are trying to win people from DL's crowd THIS tour, piano solos are not the way to do it... even OA and Faithfully start to lose those "rockers" in the crowd.

I couldn't believe that they still had the Open Arms intro solo in the set...and then he had ANOTHER solo!!! The show totally ground to a halt during that. Biggest mistake on this tour!

A few things.....

I have complete confidence in Jeff's ability. I know for a fact that he can sing these songs as they were meant to be sung. He mentioned that the 3rd day of a 3 show stint is rough, but he sounds better on this boot than I expected.

In Vegas I saw these younger dudes in DL shirts, 20 something perhaps, rocking out to "Faithfully" and it cracked me up. They were diggin' the song!! 8)

Yeah, I agree. They should axe the piano solos and take a little more time on the other songs. Atleast for this tour.

I just felt the set was rushed when I saw them. Really good, but rushed.

Not sure where Marysville falls after the 2 week break the band had (3rd show? 4th?) but his voice is already really rough on this boot, though not as bad as previous boots. When he gets further into the tour, it'll be interesting to see what happens. I think that he will get worse as the tour moves ahead, but that's my opinion.

Having said that, I've read reviews of those other boots I've heard where people said it was awesome or whatever. After hearing people say how great he was at those shows, I have NO faith in reviews. Those other shows that were booted were horrible.

I believe it was said that SSB is a chance for the DL fans not familiar with the talent of Neal Schon to get a good dose of his prowess as well as get everyone on their feet at the get go.

Hmm. I guess, but still, kind of a waste. I'd rather hear "Where Were You" ;)

Sounds like Deen's voice is getting rougher too. Anybody notice that on Open Arms?

I love "Where Were You" and would be happy to be hearing that one again, it is in my top 5. Deen's voice is sounding rough on this boot, but I still like it. He really is doing a great job with the ballads.

He sounds flat on virtually all the songs he sings on this boot. Even SA at Hershey hit the notes better than this. He struggled but he hit them. JSS can't even get to them, and when he does, he doesn't stay. And Dean's voice is very rough in this boot as well. Can you imagine what would happen if he took over full time lead singer duties? It'll happen to Jeff's voice soon I'm sure because he's straining that much harder to hit the notes he's not naturally capable of singing. It is an otherwise great sounding boot. Thanks for posting it!

My feelings exactly. Having said that, "Don't Stop Believin'" was surprisingly good. JSS struggles on one of the runs at the end, but otherwise, does a good job and it's not the easiest tune to sing. However, there are too many other spots in the show where he doesn't cut it.

I've heard Augeri be flat before, but not flat and straining. I can see JSS wearing out quicker than Augeri did if he's not careful. He DOES have a lot of heart and you can hear that in the shows. However, without that upper range, he's going to have a tough go of it.

In Separate Ways, he seems to vanish in points. Could've been the sound guy. He's VERY rough on this one though. I DO like the way he sings the first verse. Uses some headvoice and sounds great. Then he kind of gets off balance. I remember Perry used to sing the choruses lower live too.

Interesting that the "Augeri disclaimer" at the top of the shows is no longer present.

Shows the quality boot you can get when the taper is close to the speakers
(and stays away from loud drunk folks)

This will do fine, until Deano gets that soundboard he's been hinting at...

I think it was Detroit that was the worst one sound wise. WAAAAY too much bass. This one's pretty level on all counts. A+ Audience boot. :-)
