Things that make you go hmmmmmm....

Rockdaily had a story letting it be known that Queen will be getting together with Paul Rodgers to write some Queen material this fall. The link is rockdaily.com. You will find other news worthy items over there as well in the Rock and Roll world.

Too bad JSS is busy with Journey right now. His Queen covers are amazing! His voice and stage persona are so well suited for that music. The Queen covers and his solo work are where his talent truly shines.

Or Gary Cherone. There's so many guys more suited for Queen than Rodgers.

Amen, brother.

The electricity on stage when I saw Q+PR (Hollywood Bowl and San Diego's Cox Arena) was tangible...especially the San Diego show (front row never hurts, lol).

If working with PR is what it takes to get Roger and Brian back on stage, playing Queen music together, what's not to like?

I'll welcome anything new that has Brian May playing on it, but I agree...there's a lot of singers better suited for this than Rodgers. I bought the DVD and went to see them in Milwaukee this year...it was the thrill of a lifetime to finally see one my heroes playing guitar and hearing those songs brought to life, but Rodgers isn't the guy to be going forward with I'm afraid.

JSS would be the obvious choice, but he's not the kind of marquee name Queen probably wanted for a tour. Everyone knows who Paul Rodgers is...a tour billed as "Queen + Jeff Scott Soto" would get a collective "huh?" from the general public, sadly...I think thats why they went with him over JSS or someone else more in-tune with Queen's style.

Well Steve, if you were indeed thrilled to hear those great Queen songs brought back to life, then you owe Rodgers a debt of gratitude. He was the major catalyst behind the collaboration...Brian has said as much, more than once.

Like it or not, it's a fact, and they're gonna run with it some more.

That's fine. I don't think he was bad (I can't stand BadCo's overlpayed singles but Rodgers is inarguably a tremendous vocalist), it just didn't feel organic musically. I was very happy to be at the show...Queen is one of my top 3 bands of all time and it was a dream come true to see Brian and Roger play, regardless of who was singing.

I just think...they could do better. They played one new song on the U.S. tour and it was nothing to write home about...I'm afraid I don't care much for Rodgers as a songwriter (although his blues covers album is pretty good).

I would've been just as content hearing Brian sing those songs like he did on the live album from his '93 solo tour...I'm a guitar player, so really I go to a lot of shows to see May, Lukather, Schon (if I could ever afford it), etc.

How do you write Queen music without founder, Freddie Mercury? He put that entire band together! It was his dream from the getgo.

Wait! I know. MONEY!

If Brian thinks it's do-able with Paul, then why the hell not? It could definitely work!

Just like if Neal feels it with Jeff...

Sorry I have no interest in Queen+Paul Rodgers, just like John Deacon doesn't have any interest. They should just call it "Rodgers/May/Taylor and a bass player". Queen was born w/ Freddie and Queen died w/ Freddie.

It's true:

After successful tours of Europe, Japan, and North America, it looks like Queen + Paul Rodgers have decided to continue their working relationship with some new material. A message on Queen guitarist Brian May's website reads, "We will be heading into the studio in October... There was an intent there for a while, but we have all been busy picking up our lives in different ways... but now it really looks as if we are on... We will take it gently at first, the priority being to feel good, and put ourselves in the mood to create." More information is forthcoming, and it should be noted that a source close to Rodgers didn't deny May's story.

May also said the October sessions would be held "at a secret location," and, while that location hasn't been announced, it's worth noting that Rodgers and his band, which includes former Heart guitarist Howard Leese, have booked a U.K. tour for October.
There are no plans for May and Queen drummer Roger Taylor to join Rodgers onstage. May said, "It will be good to see the Paul Rodgers we all grew up with, doing his own material, from Free to Bad Company and the Firm, plus, I'm sure, a good helping of the pure blues material which is such a main artery of Paul's music."

Yeah Rodgers is good. I have the DVD and the CD they released. Its rather good, I would love to see them LIVE someday.

I don't mind Rodgers, he's alright. A mans man type of a singer, just like JSS - attitude, "balls" so to speak. Good choice for Queen in my opinion, since Freddie is gone... its never going to be the same, its like that with Journey aswell. But I think Queen with Rodgers today are better than Journey with Augeri, mainly because Rodgers was an established vocalist and never once tried to copy Mercury once, at all - Paul is a true class. Augeri, well he's just an act in my opinion - live stuff anyway...

If Steve Perry had come up with the idea of Journey, hand-picked everyone involved, including the manager and created the plan that not only launched Journey, but guided them throughout the years, then I would say they have no business being a current band (realizing that this is what some say about Styx).

Freddie Mercury did just that, didn't he? Queen was his baby from the getgo. He created it, the sound, hand-picked the players and guided it through the years. It can be honestly stated that Queen = Freddie Mercury and the reverse is true. That's my understanding. If I'm wrong, someone please inform me. Maybe Mercury was not as involved, nor was he the catalyst that I understand him to be.

Now, Freddie is gone, but the band wants to continue as Queen? Kinda weird to me.
