I love Perry but if he should be newsworthy, he should make news himself.

Perry ruled. That's a fact.
As for today, I still believe Perry can't sing his old songs in the proper key anymore.

Cheers

For some reason, it sounds like it's "double-tracked"....one soundtrack played on top of another.

There is rasp in this voice thats for sure
Its still very powerful

Steve needs to go to spring training for a few months to get his confidence back.
Once's his cords are warmed up he could pull it off
I witnessed it at the Pantages Theater about 10 years ago.
After 3 months of singing he got it back.

Is there a bootleg of that period you can suggest (and link) to me to listen to that can prove it?
I mean, I got 2 different bootlegs from his 1994 tour, and both of them had all the Journey songs tuned down either half or 1 full note.
His voice is as always beautiful, but his range is much less than it used to be.
Trail by Fire was the record that brought him to this planet from the sky. Hearing him strain so much to get those notes in One More was really painful.

Thanks and cheers

Yeah. JSS sure is singing them great in the proper key right now, right? :)
Who would you rather have, Steve Perry singing the songs in a lower key so he can reach them or Jeff Scott Soro singing the songs in a lower key so HE can reach them?

Well, I take one song that defines the classic Journey sound to my ears, Lights.
I'll take any day JSS version (sang on August, 27th) (not down-tuned) to both versions of Perry solo in 1994 (both down-tuned).

Some songs with Soto sound really great, other don't. But the same was happening with Perry since 1986, when he had his nights on and his nights off, right ?

For the sixth time, it is necessary to repeat myself and I'll do it:
- Perry was my favorite vocalist between 1977 and 1984, his place is in the all-times best vocalist ever.
- His voice changed A LOT, in his range and in his timbre (much rough)
- his voice is still a beautiful voice , I'm not saying he can't sing anymore at all
- he can't sing his songs in the original key since a long time (we're talking 'bout more than 10 yrs)
- he hasn't interest in singing with Journey since a long time (Trial By Fire-1996)
- his latest studio material, as a solo artist, was really bland. FTLOSM had 3-4 good songs and the rest was really slow, (and to my ears very boring, but this is personal opinion and shouldn't matter)
So I'm not interested in seeing Journey with Perry going down memory lane, singing songs heavily down-tuned (c'mon, what was really special in those songs? his soaring vocals reaching higher notes. tuning 'em down and making them singable even by my father makes them lose interest). But I see there are a lot of people of the opposite idea.
I'm very satisfied with my DVD of Houston 1981. I strongly believe that is the best Perry image and sound I have in my mind, seeing him today struggle with those songs would ruin that image.
I'm very pro-JSS, I just finished listening to the 27th bootleg, and while there are some songs that don't work (Ask the Lonely is the first I remember), there are a lot that really work (I was amazed by his Escape version for instance, I didn't think he could do it)
I don't think there could be a better singer who can compose and sing this way than JSS today.

Cheers

As Long as Perry is alive there of course is a chance he could finish the JRNY story
It would not be 100 shows

I see 20 and all major cities.

Its up to Perry if he will sing again
Not any of us to say he will or won't .
Only Steve Perry knows what he is going to do.
It could be nothing or it could be big who knows.

I personally think he could do it
He just needs to practice and pratice hard .
