Be Good To Yourself from Nagoya, Japan on 06.25.1998

Postby fightingilliniJRNY » Fri Sep 01, 2006 2:18 pm

This is Be Good To Yourself from one of Augeri's first shows back in 1998 (he debuted on 06.09.1998). You'll see the reason I posted it within the first ten seconds.

I believe Cain is the one who needs to read the setlist a little closer...(definately no piped in backing vocals on this song)

http://www.yousendit.com/transfer.php?a ... 2B2E2C125A

I just thought it was kind of cool. Definately something I've never seen / heard before. Bear with me, this is my first time posted a yousendit file.

Man, that thing sounds like crap. That can't can't be Journey??? Wait... the lead solo just kicked in.... yes I guess it is Journey. Ouch!!! I'm just glad I got to see them live back in the Perry days. This clip sounded like a weak cover band.

Steve Augeri has ALWAYS been like the kid you put in when the score is out of hand. He's not very good, but you don't have a choice. Everyone has to play....even those with shitty talent. Neal, as always, is money. Augeri comments please...Red 13 and NIG...the sites two biggest pussies...I'd LOVE to hear your excuses for your favorite KARAOKE singer. When you hear an Augeri-fronted song on the radio give me a ring. New Perry material will be on by next Summer...if not I'll give both of you $50.

And I would like to see a post from you that does not bash Augeri. You offer nothing to the board but the same shit over and over. You even started a thread called "How fuckin' underrated is Foreigner", and in your first post of that thread, you turn it into an anti-Augeri masturbation session. You are pathetic.

What? I just posted it because Cain started singing the wrong song. I'd never heard that before.

Augeri always brutalized this song.
You walk away from the Vegas dvd thinking he's got the whole catalog by the short hairs, man, if that were only true.
Maybe some of the catalog simply shouldn't be sung.

I just downloaded a boot of Augeri's first show at guitars101- he sang the crap out of BGTY on it. Even that last note before the guitar solo which in later shows he did in an airy falsetto on. On this first show, he nails that part.
This one here's pretty bad though. In fact, where's the background vocals? They're missing Deen's parts.
Funny Cain intro... OOPS!!! Not one of the band's finer moments ouch!!

Would love to hear it.
His first show was pretty solid.

Cool show, though.

SA sounds like veritable kid by comparisson. I think they jam out Castles Burning, Can't Tame The Lion Message Of Love and One More or some permutation of those TBF songs at least. It was raw and rough, but you could tell SA could blaze

Yeah. His pitch gets a bit wonky in WYLAW, but nothing like I've heard recently.
Augeri could blaze, definitely. He sings Lights great here too. Too bad what happened to the guy. I know it's "fun" to ridicule the guy for some, but I think it's a bloody shame what happened. (and NO, not that he got caught, but that he had to go there at all).

I'll say this Perry wasn't perfect, by no means. Chicago boot from Evolution tour, Perry has a bad moment. Saw Perry in Memphis 83 were he goofed up on a song.

He always sounded this way. Everyone overlooked it because:

1. They desperately wanted to see Journey live again.

2. He had long black hair.

3. He wore tight red leather pants.

I admit, I paid to see them three times with Augeri. Not that I cared for the hair or the pants (my wife might have liked them), but I would pay just to see Neal, Ross, Jon, and Deen play a night of instrumental music. Having Augeri put the words in place for them to follow isn't much of a bonus, especially when he sings out of key (which he did a LOT).
