OT: Left Handed Guitarists

I know the rock world has some great leftys....Hendrix, McCartney, etc.. how many of you in here play the guitar? How many play left-handed? I had learned to play right handed (I'm left handed,) but it never really felt natural to me. Therefore, I have purchased a left handed guitar and I'm going to try to switch. Has anybody in here been successful with switching from playing the guitar right handed to left handed or the other way around?

That's the same thing I do. Well, I don't actually play... but when I used to pick a bit, I'd pick up the guitar and flip it without thinking cause it was more comfortable to play southpaw even upside-down. I think I was one of those kids born a leftie but forced right. My mom won't admit to it though.

but if i remember , it was strung up correct,, reversed the nut , big E still on top,, doyle bramall plays a lefty strung upside down ,, big E on the bottom,, and hes great too..

and that is just crazy impossible,, someone named SilverBlue told me that a while back,, ive kept up with neal from the 70's and never caught on to the left handed thing until recently seeing pics of him signing autographs left handed,,, maybe thats what gives him the unique sound,, i would love to ask him how "natural" that was to accomplish,,,

Rik Emmett is a lefty who plays right-handed. His guitar wizardry on the Live At The US Festival DVD is something else. But Rik is one of the best rock guitarists ever.

Actually.. think about it, and our left hands are the most dextrous, and we are using it on the fret -board.. so to my mind..we got it right... everyone else is just a "fuck-up" haha

Its a bastard really..as to be a 100% Macca would be the icing on the cake to actually play left handed... I recall there werent too many LH guitars arond in the mid 70's..so I went right handed instead

I'm a lefty too,I write with the left hand.I played a little guitar when I was a kid,but played right handed.Felt comfortable that way,don't know why.
Had an odd feeling when I first saw Jimi Hendrix,lol... He was indeed amazing.

My husband is a lefty and has been playing guitar for 20 years. He was urged to play right-handed, but like Jimi, it never felt comfortable to him. He bought a lefty guitar, learned it, and is now very glad he didn't give in to the right-handed world.

It differs from individual to individual. If a lefty guitar feels more natural to you, than it's worth it to make the change.
Either way, It's about building dexterity; learning the chords is easy. My husband just mirrors the rightys.

There's a lot of lefty resourses out there, and some great lefty guitars, my husband has seven.
