Time has a way of lulling people back into complacency. Hence the adage that those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it.

Regardless of political ideologies, I hope today we can remember that for a while those who lost their lives, as well as those who survived gave us all a way to recognize that good can and often does reside in humanity.

May their loved ones find some small solace in that.

You know...comments like this do no good. You drive a car or heat your house, then you love oil too. One man does not control everything on this planet, people give him way too much credit. I don't want to argue with you, but simply state that everything cannot be blamed on the President, there are millions and millions of people on this planet and we all share the problems we are facing today. All we can do is our best to make a difference in our tiny part of the world each and every day even though that sounds trivial. This thread was started as a remembrance for 9/11, not to bash.

I'll never forget 9/11... Although I was thousands of miles away,I was in a state of shock for days.
I felt the sadness and the pain of all those who have lost their family and friends...

As one can only imagine, she has been very quiet today. In seeing and hearing all the tributes and memorials to the victims of this horrible act on television, internet, news and radio broadcasts I have this lump in my throat knowing that this woman endured such a tragic loss.

Several of us decided to give her a hug and to let her know that our thoughts and prayers were with her and those of other families and victims. How amazing it is that the United States showed their ability to endure, once again.

reflecting at work today... remembering how lucky I am to be in the midwest....and remembering working at our travel business accross from the des moines airport... seeing all the planes landing that morning...then having customers stuck in europe and accross the USA for days after that... trying to get rental cars to do one way rentals....now looking back Iam shocked were still open for business.... we lost probably 70% of our business for the fall and spring of that year, because no one wanted to fly... The most bizzare site at night for three nights was not seeing any lights from the planes flying at night accross the country--or hearing any jets taking off for three days!

BTW my 40th birthday was later that week 9/15...so not much celebrating during that year...

Deano, btw the movie did show successes from the clintons as well... and you also got to remeber that we still have the first six months of the Bush team floundering about during the movie... and I love Bush.. so you know the movie will come down hard on him as well.. If it doesn't I will be sort of shocked... because isnt that what Richard Clarks testamony was about....

The one thing you got to remember is how many times during the 90s did Clintons team have to get "UBL" and each time...they called it off--that tells you security issue for the nation and the world was at a very low priority...

This morning, I watched some of the live coverage from that day.

As a New Yorker, it touched me deeply. Once again.

Five years ago, the mother of a friend of mine was at the Towers that morning on business. He was frantically trying to get in touch with her, but of course, couldn't. He was thinking the worst, until many hours later he finally reached her. She was one of the lucky ones.

God Bless all the families, friends, co-workers, firefighters, police, and all the workers, who lost loved ones that day. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Always.

---lets see were still in Germany for 60 years , France for 60 years..., England for about the same time..., Korea for about 50 years.. Japan, Phillippines, etc... we are peace keeping in all these places to for stratagy... We need to be in IRAQ for a while longer... just MHO, so as to build a base for that area, just like we did in Europe after WWII.

Like everyone else, I remember EXACTLY where I was and what I was doing when this all went down. Our nation and our world were forever changed on that fateful morning. While we should all honor those who lost thier lives that day, we should also maintain our support for all the men and women of the Armed Forces that have been tasked heavily ever since. My first 11 years of service do not compare to military-life post 9-11. We are scattered abroad for months at a time and constantly in harms way, trying to instill freedom to a country that wants it. Believe it or not, the majority of the Iraqis want us there. I am proud of the time I spent in Iraq in 2004-2005 and I will be proud to go back again next year when my time comes. So many people argue and protest this war and our troops but 95% of them have never put on a uniform, they have never sworn an oath to "Protect and Defend"... Don't feel sorry for us! You don't have to protest for us! Guess what??? We signed up for this, this is our job, our life. Don't cry for us or send your ratty ass protesters to funerals of fallen soldiers (this happens all the time)... Honor those soldiers and thier courage. Honor thier families. Face it, we are going to be in Iraq and Korea and all over the world for as long as there is still a USA and nothing is gonna change that; not a new president, a new administration or an entirely new third party.
For those that can't deal with that, don't join the military or let your children join the military. Stop driving a motorized vehicle and get a skateboard if you think the Oil over there isn't worth fighting for...

Hey Yak....Steve and Neil were firemen whom we were friends with and my husband worked with...Lenny was a childhood friend of mine, also a fireman, and Lee was my neighbor...so was Steve actually. I was 3 months pregnant at the time, with my youngest, and almost lost her...I had stopped eating, lost weight, and bad things were happening...BUT I finally got the presence of mind to say they weren't taking my child as well...so I began to take care of myself again.

I had family too, in the towers, but they made it out...

There were so many more that my husband knew from his years on the FD...so many memorial services we went to, most didnt' have funerals because there simply wasn't anything to bury...

So sad, such a sad day...

I taped the ABC show to watch later, Clinton didn't have the balls to deal w/ terrorism he was too concerned w/ his poll numbers. That's why him and his party tried to bully ABC to not air it. From what I hear most of the info used for it came from the 9/11 commission report. It would have been even worse if Sandy Burglar didn't escape with documents stuffed in his drawers and socks.
Clinton raised his hand and took an oath to protect us, and at every turn he failed miserably. Nothing you can say can change that. I watched 9/11 live on TV that day and I will never forget what it looked like. It is marked into my brain and I do not need reruns on TV to remind me. It was one of the most horrible tragedies of our lifetime. I am 64 years old and short and blonde and light skined, however, at the airport shortly after9/11 I was pulled out of line and asked to take my shoes and socks off. They went through my handbag including looking at lipsticks. The guy in front of me was definetely of Arabic decent and went right through. Boy, was I pssed off. They should profile anyone who looks out of place!

Dean, While I usually find your sick humor funny, you crossed the line. This thread is to honor the thousands people that died and lost loved ones five years ago. Do you have any respect for them at all??? If you want to make jokes do it on another thread. Don't trivialize the semi-sacred nature of this thread. Sure many have used it to express political views and feelings that are marginally out of line and they have been called on it.
