OT: Why Tuesdays?

Postby Carlitto H@kk » Wed Sep 13, 2006 6:38 am

This is a pretty "Useless Knowledge" type question but something I've always wondered.
Why has the entertainment industry marked Tuesdays as the day for all new music and video releases?
Fridays are usually pay-days and the day that most movies premier...
What is the significance of releasing stuff on Tuesdays, anyone know?

Good question..... but I don't know the answer. I used to work in a record store and Tuesdays were big! Then I worked for a label and, well.... nothing.... don't know   Perhaps it has to do with publishing charts and sales and stuff :?
Until we meet again, may God

In real countries...err...Europe...new releases come out on Mondays.

My guess is that here, it's Tuesdays because they don't ship albums on Sundays (plus some stores might be closed)...so the new releases arrive Monday and the store has that day to stock and put price tags on them and whatnot for Tuesday.

That sounds reasonable...
But I've worked at retail music stores and for Blockbuster part-time in the past and most merchandise is on hand about a week before its official release date.

Because everyone in the music biz is too hungover on a Monday to get anything done.

(Well, more hungover than on the other days of the week. )

Bingo. We have a winner, however, points off for "real countries and Europe in the same sentence."

Why has the entertainment industry marked Tuesdays as the day for all new music and video releases?

The group NARM (national assoc. of recording merchandisers) flipped a coin and Tuesdays won. They have been using this day for about 15 years. It levels the playing field for all those that sell music and movies. New releases do arrive at retail about a week before, if a compay breaks the release date they can be denied future new releases.
