What annoyed me about the song was Deen's three cymbal hits he repeats in the beginning. WTF? Love ya, but that ruins the beginning of the song. It's supposed to be a simple beginning.

Loved the end, "Give a warm Journey welcome to our friend and lead singer, Jeff Scott Soto."

Yeah I dont like those three cymbal hits either...those new? Haven't noticed it before.

Jeff's sounding 1000 times better now than he was before. You can tell he's still straining a tiny bit in places but jesus christ who's not gonna?

I doubt the 'Journey Camp' will allow Jeff to post anything he is currently doing on his website.... they are pretty anal about 'unofficial' things  . I hope you get to a show.

WOW!
Thanks Digs. That SIL clip is great.
I don't know about you all- I'm one of the DL fans that has been "re-introduced" to Journey via this tour. And I have to say, having heard JSS live that he really "Rocked" the house when I saw him/them. If you haven't seen a show yet- GO!
Jeff is definately worthy- IMHO :D

There was a boot from mid July that I thought had its ups and downs. The boot from 8/27 was very good.

Please keep in mind that you are used to listening to studio stuff and this is RAW.

There are some songs and some places where I don't love, but there are others that are the best I've ever heard. Chain Reaction is fucking ridiculous, I mean to the point where they should do a video for this for VH1-Classic and get people seeing this new band.

This guy has been doing this for 2 months and already has me won. What about in 2 years...Holy Christ. I think Escape sounds amazing with the harmony contrasts between JSS and the rest of the band/Deen-O. I think Separate Ways is now a bonafide rocker. Edge of the Blade is excellent in most places. Stone in Love is great. Ask the Lonely still sounds a little off to me and I didn't care for Only the Young and Be Good to Yourself. Lights and LTS are actually interesting again.

I may not get my hair cut like his, but I'm digging his vibe and voice!

The boot from the San Diego show is the best I've heard yet. Soto sounds great on that one.

Thanks for the boots! Well, first I'll say Neal scares me, because he only gets better and better, and he was already the best a long time ago. Jeff sounds ok on some parts, but he is straining too much. Escape sounds like a strange tuning, kind of like a key changer on a karaoke machine or something. Stone in Love was better. I think this is a tough gig for JSS. I'd rather have more SS than an off sounding Journey.

Listened to Escape, think Jeff is doing a better job than Augeri ever did, but I still think it's just a different vibe. He's just got a heaviness to his voice that takes some getting used to on these songs. I love it when the recorded BGV kick in on Escape though!

Jeremey,

I'm with you dude and I think you captured the issue well. Jeff gives a completely different vibe which to me doesn't sound like Journey. What do you think long term? Is it the right vibe for the band or not?

L8r,

Aaron

It's so hard to figure on what is "long term" for this band at this point. What they do at the end of this tour will say a lot. It's obvious Jeff could continue to front this band for as long as people would buy tickets, it's like Jonathan said, it's about the songs. And he covers the songs better than Steve Augeri did for the past 8 years - Even if Augeri sounded more "Perry," the energy and the power will sell the material. I think it's all about the public's tolerance for nostalgia, and I don't mean that in a derogatory way, I just mean that right now is Journey's second wave, it's been that way since early last year...And eventually, I think the younger set's taste for nostalgia will move in another direction...I hope the band keeps ahead of the curve...
