Quiet Riot

One of this autumn´s biggest surprises must be this new Quiet Riot album “Rehab”. I thought that these guys were already has-beens so I didn´t have any kind of expectations for this album. But listening those mp3-samples from http://www.frankie-banali.com/QR-Rehab.html totally blow me away. It seems like guys have managed to get same kind of atmosphere to these new songs like on their excellent debut album. Of course guitar sound is more modern than back in those days but it doesn´t matter. And Kevin DuBrow hasn´t lost any power from his voice. All in all, definitive buy for me although I normally listen wimpier stuff but can´t resist hard rock when it is performed this well.

Not bad at all, but sounded pretty average to me, and not really metal. Of course, I'm not the biggest fan of theirs.. I did really like Metal Health and Condition Critical was pretty good..

Well back in 1983 Metal Health was considered as Heavy Metal but by today´s standards I would say they were (and still are) just a bit harder and heavier version of Slade. And may I add that I´m not saying this with negativity as I like Slade.

I'm looking forward to this release for 2 reasons:

1. Glenn Hughes doing a duet on one of the tunes

2. Tony Franklin (one of my fave bassists) playing on the disc

My point was that Quiet Riot is a metal band and doesn't sound like it on the new cd. When I put on Breathless or Condition Critical or something, that is quintessential classic metal. The new tunes don't have either that heaviness or aggression.

My musical taste have mellowed quite a bit from eighties so I don´t mind if Quiet Riot boys have mellowed too.
But I think this new stuff is still harder than QR3 album.

Interesting. I'm a huge Quiet Riot fan and own all of their music, and I think that this material sounds like their worst work ever.

What's "III" the self-titled one w/ Shortino on vox?

Have it and it is a TERRIFIC record....prolly my favorite of all....

I'd rate that, then ReHab #2, followed by Metal Health 3.

I agree that Rehab is strongly 70ies influnced but still it sounds Quiet Riot, there´s no “is this the same band?” –feelings at all. I guess it´s because even in 80ies there was 70ies influence in their sound because of Slade –connection. But all in all, I have been very satisfied with the album. Like I said earlier I didn’t expect anything from these guys but they put all us sceptics to shame.

Agree, the Zep influence is surely not a bad thing....right now I've narrowed it down to Black Reign being like one of the songs off Presence (opening, middle guitar riffs) and track 3 (don't have the title in front of me right now) being very much reminiscent of when The Levee Breaks...and then other parts remind me some of Lez Zep I...

All-In-All a surprisingly good record, ReHab. Banali's drums are fantastic as is the new guitarist Citron. I like the Hughes (bassist) co-lead voc on Evil Woman (though the song goes on too long at over 8 min.).


I also dig the cover with the "Metal Health" Hannibal Lecter mask peeking out of the "R" something cool I JUST picked up on.

'Rehab' is an awesome disc. One of those albums that grows on you more and more each time you listen to it. I saw QR this past summer, and the three tracks they played live from it sounded great. Even if you are a semi-fan, pick this CD up. It rocks!
