Cain's new album

Postby *Laura » Wed Sep 20, 2006 3:06 am

Don't know if this was posted...
I just saw this on MR's front page.(thanks,Andrew)

"Journey keyboardist Jonathan Cain has released his latest solo album Where I Live. The CD is available exclusively at FYE stores.
Track listing: Where I Live . Can She Say . Sometimes She Breaks . Fragile World . Shine On Chicago . Pride of the Family . Half Full . Letting Me Down . Before Brando . Man's Best Friend . Faithfully (a duet with Mica Roberts)."

This should be interesting..."Pride Of The Family"?I wonder how does this version sound...or is it just a title coincidence?
I hope "Faithfully" is THAT song, lol.

If this album is just as melodic as "Piano With A View",I already love it. 8)

Did "Piano With A View" have "Elegance on the Catwalk" on it? What an insipid instrumental that was....I feel old and tired and ready to give up on life when I hear that record....

 Yep..."Elegance..." is on that album.

Well,if you could listen to that album with a woman's ears, you would feel relaxed, instead of tired.

I have to agree with Shania. I own everything Jon Cain has out (solo wise). Definitely 'feel good' music and I usually have it playing when I'm relaxing.

Piano with a View was total elevator music to me. I played it maybe twice. Anybody wanna buy it?
I DID like the one "Back to the Innocence" or something like that. That had some good songs on it.

There are a few samples (mp3) on Jon's website. I had never heard "Pride of the Family" but just that little bit, the beginning, reminds me very much of a similarity to both "Troubled Child" & "Trial by Fire" - some haunting quality that I really like. Anyone have "Pride" from Journey to listen too?
Jon's voice sounds like some singer from the 80s, I can't think of...he does sound young, actually. I don't think I'll be buying this one, 'tho...I like Jon, just not too keen on the sounds here - and I just can't listen to "Faithfully" by anyone but Steve Perry - even 'tho I know Jon wrote the whole song! sorry.

Jon doesn't have such a great singing voice that I want to hear it. Haven't been impressed with his voice work on any solo stuff since he went solo. I thought his version of Faithfully was just plain bad, but that's just me.

The version of Pride of the Family is the same as the bonus track for generations. At least there were no differences that I was able to perceive. While he doesn't have the best voice in the world, it is serviceable, but I felt it was better on BTTI. Of his two solo efforts, I prefer BTTI, but the version of Faithfully on this CD with the duet was far superior of the Cain sung ones (mostly due to the female vocalist on the song)
