Wow another member misses a show!

Postby Joe From Buffalo » Thu Sep 21, 2006 2:05 pm

Just got home form the Darien Lake (Buffalo) show and Deen the Drummer was nowhere to be found. A few songs into the set Jeff Scott Soto mentioned how Deen ate some bad fish in CT. and was unable to play so his drum tech ended up on drums for the whole show. Is this now just a cover band plus Neal & Jonathan?

Kiss did that on their reunion tour when drum tech Eddie Cannon filled in for Peter Criss.

It's a better choice than cancelling a show. The show must go on, and I applaud the band for being able to play for the people in Buffalo.

Techs to some degree are like understudies in stage shows - if something happens to #1, you go to #2. THis isn't a big deal. Be thankful someone could step in and still hold it together.

Hardly a big deal. Just because the situation with Augeri isn't as clear as it might have been doesn't mean there's some conspiracy going on or Journey is any less of a band. The drummer got ill...no biggie.

That says it all right there. I applaud Journey for going on with the show. Not all bands would have. Hey Joe, you've NEVER missed a day of work because you were sick?

:D Jeff sang everything and in my opinion was awesome. The drumming was decent but as any true fan could tell it lacked Deen's driving power. As for being a cover band it was just a joke..but a true statement that my Brother said who was not happy missing Deen and his fave singer Augeri...calm down jeesh!!! :)

Deen seems to miss a few...
When I saw them, Mugs Cain was drumming. Gee. Neat... That was back in 98 or something. Dissapointment as the band was looking at him all night for cues...

Bet the fans were pissed at no Open Arms, no Faithfully.

Jim is an amazing drummer and is more than capable of stepping in when the need arises. Fans should be thankful the show went on at all. It seems with some, this band can't win no matter what they do. It's just a band, folks...not life or death.

Hey, I am a nurse, RN BSN, ACLS, and ACLS instructor, BLS, and BLS instructor, anything I can do, just let me know. Food born illness can be very serious, I am just glad that the tech was able to fill in. I would rather have a tech than no show anyday of the week. Get well soon Deen.

I think its totally cool they gave the drum tech. the job for the night, right on! touring night after night has got to be mentally and physically exhausting! Their are men, not robots. The flying, driving, setting up, quick meals, late nights, being "on" all the time. I'm sure the benefits are great too  The techs. should have some fun for the job they do-they want to live their "dreams" too. The keyboard/piano tech. is gorgeous! He toured with Faith Hill and Tim McGraw and I would have loved to seen him play piano while Jon kept over on the guitar. Anyway, stupid comment about the "cover band" cause you are seeing Journey and thier music and all that goes with, not just the 5 main dudes 8)

The show must go on! By the way, Jeff, I hear Roanoke, Virginia hasn't gotten a chance to see Journey lately, hint hint nod nod!

And just to be on the safe side...all the band members are welcome to come over for dinner! I only know how to make hamburger helper, but hey...it rocks!
