Where to start...

Postby frfksakes » Thu Sep 28, 2006 7:19 am

Don't want to step on any toes by diving right into the frey, so where do you suggest a newbie start? I've been lurking now and then for a little while, but am still trying to get a handle on the new singer. first of all, is he the new singer?
I'd like to go see them, but right now they just seem a little like a really good cover band. I LOVE watching Neal, but is it really worth seeing them do the same songs? seriously. Loved Perry, other steve was ok. How would you rate this new guy? and where could i get a good taste before tickets go on sale? I'd love to get excited about Jrny again! Just a little gun shy about getting my hopes up...
I'm sure u guys get sick of having to explain it all... lol.

thanks for any help! :D

YES. GO SEE THEM. JSS is about 50x better than Augeri and just a notch under Perry. Some people on here will not agree with me, but there ARE some who will BOOST my comment.
It's a double edge sword here...so be careful.

Welcome.

Journey is still trying to reinvent itself since they went on without Perry back in 98. So far they have had vocalists that have attempted to cover the Journey hits, with some success on the concert scene. Any new material has been unappreciated except by friends and family of the band. JSS has yet to prove himself as other than possibly covering the Journey hits. After this tour, if they turn out new material, Journey may be taken seriously again unless they go the SS route. JMHO

Wait until they produce a new CD and are willing to play songs from it live, in concert. Other than that, unless you're starving for the oldies, it's probably a waste.

Lol, thanks. That's what I'm wondering. Think I might give them a try, just to watch Neal and give the new guy a listen. but it will take some new material for me to get too excited. I love almost everything Journey has done, but I don't want to hear the same thing over and over. I would never have believed I'd get sick of Journey songs, but I kind of have. Sorry.
I hope Journey will take some chances for us lifelong fans, rather than play it safe and appease the nostalgia fans. I know it's complicated, and I will always support them. Just being selfish and hopeful.

Thank you, everyone, for your thoughts on this!

Man, if I had the chance to see Journey live? I would go! no hesitation, Steve Augeri or Jeff Scott Soto - for sure, either one. Why not, its entertainment man, go and have a good time. All this bitching and complaining we all do here, half the time we are bored or havin a bad day or somthing, but at the end of the day... its just enterainment, music is a form of stimulate - it gets the senses going.

Go and have a good time! because, you may not have the chance to someday.

It's not the same thing over and over with JSS at the helm. If you're a Neal fan, you have to see him this tour, a new energy is in the air. AND, Deen singing Open Arms makes me actually like that song again.

Hey newbie...

1st off. THIS is the place to go for REAL news.

2nd- Augeri is out. Proof coming VERY soon.

3rd. HOTS is a frustrated perry freak. Why these Perry freaks can't appreciate what he accomplished and move on, rather than crucify any new singer that comes along. Ok, crucify the fuck out of Augeri, you have my blessing, as that ass clown can't sing his fucking ABC's.

4th- JSS a phefuckingnominal front man. Did he miss a note or two in AC? Sure did. Was he awesome in concert? You bet your sweet ass. By the way, not a single note was missed in Boston.

5th- Stay away from the "official site" unless you like to suck chocolate martinis out of fat hippo asses hourly. Those people over there are cultists, and will do and say anything for the band memebers. Too bad NONE of the band memebers gives a turkey's dick about that place. I wish Saddam would've dropped a nuke on Back Talk.

6th. Monker is disturbed. He used to know lots of shit, but lately, has set the record for menstrual period at 9 months.

7th. IF you elect to stay here and participate and get your info, you are probably pretty smart; however, I suggest you develop a thick skin mighty fast.

Have fun, don't be swayed in the least, and see the fucking band now! The best Journey show you will EVER see, I guaranfuckintee it.

LMFAO!!! Now THAT's what I'm f***ing talking about! I've been warned, edified and intrigued, all in one post. (and maybe even a little scared - in a good, roller coaster kind of way)
Thick skin, not a problem. I can give and take, and never take anything on the internet too seriously.

If the "official site" is what I think it is, I did check it out, but fell fast asleep. Somehow, I don't see that happening here. Lol
Thanks for the entertaining welcome, Rockin'Deano! I’m kind of a “Perry freak” myself, and hope he’s not done, but also LOVE Neal, and will try to catch him whenever I can. I’m actually excited, now, to see them again. So thank you, all! Your enthusiasm is contagious.

Goto www.youtube.com and type in Jeff Scott Soto and find the "Seperate Ways" video. I've watched it a few times and he does an AWESOME job! Someone posted a short video (I think it's on Jeff's website) of Jeff and the band warming up with "I'll be Alright Without You." Sounded better than what was on the record!

No problem! I love Perry's voice and contributions to music and Journey, but let's face it, he is done. Even I was saying he will put out something next year, and sadly, that is not going to happen now.

Deano....... looking at the avatar and the fact that they spelled "For Fucks Sake" (am I right newbie?) a bit differently, it is a dude.

I think that's one way to look at it...

Another is: If you would have been willing to spend $75/ticket to see the Vacations Over tour, then you may as well do it this time . If you would not have been willing to do that, and you don't care about Def Leppard, then why exactly are you asking the question? It's not going to be worth it for you.

Good question! And that pretty much IS my question. Is it worth it?

& I ask bc it's Neal, and Journey, with a new twist. If I'd seen this Soto guy before, I wouldn't even consider going to see them sing the old same songs again. [And I doubt i'd go see them again without a new (& good) cd.]
NOT a big fan of Def Leppard, but am a little worried I might not get another chance to see Neal live. Boy, I hope THAT's wrong. $75 is a lot of dough for me, though. So I will have to see…

Sadly that's the STARTING price. That's why I haven't been to a game in 2 years.

Sounds like quite a tour you're goin' on instead of Tx.
