Since this band's management has already proven itself totally unqualified to handle scandal (i.e. the bungling of the lip synch debacle), it is no suprise that it cannot smoothly handle the transistion of a new lead singer, either.
This is becoming more crystal clear daily.
Fuck, I wouldn't trust them to keep the tour bus supplied with a full tank of gas.

Those of us with even the most deep-seated resentment towards Augeri and what was pulled last tour(s), would agree that a concilliation needs to be made and needs to be made soon.
Like it or not, he was this band's frontman for 8 years and he has aggregated his fair share of fans.
I should know, I'm still one of them (sorta, kinda..ok, only a little bit).

Unlike some, instead of proposing to sentence him to some subterranean hell hole to endue Abu Ghrab style testicular shock therapy (at the clammy avuncular hands of Dick Cheney, no less!) why not take the high road and offer him a guest vocal spot on the next album?
A sort of classy good will gesture to subdue the hordes of fat carnivorous wilderbeasts that are gathering daily at BT's front gates.
They are angry as hell and they want your blood, Neal.

And you know what? - They deserve better, too.

Maybe the band can do a 50s style boogie number and Steve can do the doo-wop thing in the background whilst doing the Stevie shuffle.

Typical idealist liberal with his head in the clouds.
Don't u see? - Nobody wants to make amends with the enemy.

Augeri attacked us, and now with JSS leading the batalion, we have launched the offensive and taken the war straight to his front doorstep.

Has anyone ever told u what a silly macaca u are?

I guess my earnest attempt at rabble-rousing and demagoguery fell flat on its face.
I really thought I raised some interesting food for thought in this thread, folks.
Guess not.
From here on out, remind me to save my long-winded editorials for the Wall Street Journal.

I now return you to our regularly scheduled dick, vag, poo, whatever-flinging fest already in progress.

Thanks for the heads up, Larry! Very kind of you.
I'm not afraid, but also meant no offense. just enjoying the reading. Very colorful. I'm actually agreeing with some of it... lol. (esp i.e. the inept management!!) funny, too.

Ok, I'll play.
No, I don't think they should invite Augeri back into the camp for any reason. It would not appear just as a goodwill jesture, IMO. It would further confuse the wildebeasts and enrage those who wanted Augeri thrown out on his ear the first nano second that "tape" rolled. Journey fans want to live in the dream world that Neal & Jon are not the kind of musicians that would go along with taped vocals or anything but LIVE performances for their fans, especially any that stuck with them in spite of Perry being gone.
Augeri showing up, even in the sound booth while they are trying to get past all this, is pushing it. I think alot of people don't want to be reminded that more band members than just Augeri were involved in propping him up. I would wash my hands of the entire band if I thought they were gonna start cozying up to that faker again. There is no excuse or reason for it. It would be a deadly p.r. move, IMO. They need to keep their noses clean, go out there and play hard, play LIVE, and pretend that Augeri never stood on the stage with any of them. Moving forward past the Augeri era is the best p.r. move they could make.

EightyRock,
You are looking at this through your beliefs. But you need to remember that a majority of Journey fans either do not know about tapegate or they do not believe it. So, for them, continuing relations with Steve would be a good thing. it would show that the guys really are friends and that they did not hang Steve out to dry. And they could easily put out the empty offer, knowing that Steve would not be able to take them up on it...

My God, you are so right. The smokescreen of a new singer and the pushing aside of Augeri's issues is a complete embarrassment to the entire industry of band management. It's pretty pathetic that even the band can't frankly and honestly say who their OFFICIAL lead singer is when asked.

Like it or not, he was this band's frontman for 8 years and he has aggregated his fair share of fans.

Yep. And they have quite a thing to believe here, since there is really not a single bad experience story involving Steve Augeri I know of. It took me a long time to wrap my brain around Tapegate because of this.

Unlike some, instead of proposing to sentence him to some subterranean hell hole to endue Abu Ghrab style testicular shock therapy (at the clammy avuncular hands of Dick Cheney, no less!) why not take the high road and offer him a guest vocal spot on the next album?

Well, I'm sure Neal doesn't give a crap. But actually, I think if Augeri is out they should not offer a guest vocal... just ACKNOWLEDGING the last 8 years (or at least his "good" years) would be good enough for me. Augeri's appearance at PNC and Jeff's nice words about it are what I'm talking about - IT WAS A CLASSY MOVE BY BOTH JOURNEY (for inviting him) AND JEFF!

And you know what? - They deserve better, too.

I agree. I believe the more distance they put between themselves and Augeri the better.

They also need to make the break clean and official. Augeri showing up in the soundbooth just confused the issue.

They are playing The Who's "We Won't Get Fooled Again" before the show.

Look, I was the bastard that affected this change, and that is good enough of a committal to me. Being in a band is not easy. Sure there is Booze, 1st class and lots of Trim to be had, but because of one piss poor link, we can't throw Neal and Co under the guillotine. Look, they have moved forward, so have I, and so should you all.

I have something to say later on tonight.

Tell me something though...just what if tapegate was proposed by your beloved Neal and it comes to light that Steve was just doing what he was told? Will you all call for Neal's head and his removal from Journey? And please fair folk of MR, do not tell me that Neal being behind tapegate is beyond belief. As everyone is so fond of saying "it is his band!" And honestly.....anyone believing he or the other members knew nothing of it is just fucking absurb!

Please bear in mind this has nothing to do with JSS. I think he is an excellent singer. This is strictly about everyone but SA being let off the hook for a scandal that in order to succeed had to include the other members.

Yeah, they could publicly say, "Yeah, Steve can join us to perform any time he wants to. It's an open invitation."

Then, when Augeri makes the call...They can tell him, "No, no, no, we meant Steve Perry."
