Keep On Runnin needs some work on the backing vocals. Pretty out of tune. Positively LIVE and not Memorex though! :D :D :D

Its adequate.. but for me.... JSS doesnt have that "special" voice that makes the likes of Perry(or Augeri, when at his best... in the studio !!)..... Jamieson, or even Bickler stand out from the crowd... its a good voice, but simply doesnt have the "wow" factor.

If thats as good as its gonna get... its gonna have to be the quality of any new songs that are gonna clinch it, and not the singer...which is a complete reverse for Journey!!

sorry...thats my opinion as of this moment!

im prepared to change on this.... if I hear the magic that you evidently are hearing right now!

I'm glad I don't know anything about music, :) or tech stuff or who is singing bg vocals, I just listen and enjoy the music, guitar, singer, piano, drums :) . Some people on here pick everything apart! Why can't they just enjoy?????

OH. I'm not picking it apart. No band is perfect live. Just showing how it truly is LIVE and not on tape or lip synced. Reminds me of the old King Biscuit Flower hour shows. Real live and raw. Not much fixing on those shows :)

Exactly. Jeff kicks ass live.

I have an awful, rushed version of "Stevie the Voice" from 86 totally ruining Ask the Lonely. Most of the live material ever heard from "Stevie the Voice" is not raw board, or boot. It was released after careful consideration. This stuff Deano posted is flying by the seat of the pants LIVE and it rocks!

These posts are excellent snapshots of ONE night and I think they are incredible. Thanks for posting them!

I love JSS, but I really wish they'd leave some of the Perry era material behind and write some NEW stuff and PLAY it. Dead or Alive is one of my fav kick ass Journey songs, but Perry OWNED it live. I'm just not feelin' the love on this one with JSS. As long as they bring in all the old classics with Perry's vocal acrobatics stamped into my memory soundboard, this ain't gonna fly for me. The last classic DVD will be etched in my memory forever.
Soul Sirkus stuff kicks ass and Jeff does a great job on alot of the Journey classics, but this one is just untouchable, IMO. I never heard Augeri attempt this one. If I did, I'd probably have to go take a shower or something. Journey needs new tunes...badly. You can't improve on the old stuff, so please leave it alone. I'd rather hear something like New Position with Soul Sirkus than any more frontmen attempting Journey classics. Don't get me wrong, Jeff sounds really great on alot of the stuff, but a few of those classics sound too odd with somebody/ANYbody else attempting them.

I used to feel the same way at first. But... I had to let the past go. Perry ain't comin back. Enjoy it while you have it. I am getting more comfortable with Jeff every time I hear him. And yes, I CAN'T WAIT to hear some new Journey music with Jeff at the helm.

The Soul Sirkus song "Coming Home" is very Journey like as well as "Soul Goes On". Combine that with some rocking songs like "Believe In Me" from Jeff and there you have it... a winning formula. :D :D

Good points.

You can have it two ways.

Etched in memory with Perry, or sung live today with JSS.

Also, give them a chance to put out a CD.

PS- Keep listening...It will become more acceptable.

I missed the Red Rocks show and now it looks like I'll miss them when they come back thru in a few weeks. Listening to these boots just makes me even more pissed off that I can't see this for myself.....

Wrong. There are plenty of audience boots out there where it was 100% live, untouched and damn good. I doubt if there is another singer out there who had the pitch that "Stevie the Voice" (as you called him) had. I've heard a shitload of singers live and most of them suck at least part of the time, if not most of the time. . Perry's vocals were about as perfect as they get...live. I think Soto is better than most, too.

I hear ya, man. I'm not holding out hope for Perry's return. That ain't happening. I like Jeff, don't get me wrong! I just have a hard time going back and watching that last classic DVD and hearing a few of those songs done by somebody else. You can't improve on perfection with a few of those, IMO. Dead or Alive is one of my favs, with all those crazy vocal lines, so I guess I'm overly critical. 8)

What no one seems to mention is that as great as Perry was, Jeff's voice is much lower than either Augeri or Perry's. To be able to hit these high notes in FULL voice and not falsetto is pretty amazing. I think (I'm not sure) Augeri and Perry are tenors but Jeff is not.

Is that the Oct 9 1986 ROR boot? That was f*ckin' incredible, Perry was all over it! It was hyper fast though, talk about energy.
Also the bass playing sounded awesome.

Deano,

Thanks for posting the cuts. Those are the best quality boots I've heard since JSS started singing. Thanks for sharing them.

This is same show that you were saying is a good as Perry, right? Dude, how much beer did you have? I still don't get it, I've listened to all of the cuts a few times and they still suck. My 10 year old son was laughing as I was listening to them. He is a big Journey fan and he doesn't get it either. Deen kicks ass at 1:06 which is the highlight of Dead or Alive. Dude, I'm taking you up on your guarantee, it sucked. JSS is a cool MOFO but that shit sounds nothing like Journey. I stand by I've said since seeing them in Indy.

As I see it they have the following options:

1. Get someone in that can cover the sound

2. Bring Deen from behind the drum kit to sing

3. Hang it up and call it a day

4. Have two singers, one to cover the classic stuff and JSS to go forward

5. Call it what it is, Soul SirkUS, and go forward in a new direction

6. Run it into the ground in its current incarnation.

The bottom line, that is not Journey.

L8r,

Aaron
