Apparently I bought some Empire CDs the moment you were typing these words! Saw them in the cheapo bin, and checked out the names... Sounded interesting, haven't been able to find the time to play them yet.

But you selecting it as AOTW is kinda reassuring.

I stick to one of the lesser known albums by Badlands: Dusk.

So far I've been playing only two albums this week. Picture by one of the first Dutch hardrock acts Picture and About Face by David Gilmour. Can't seem to make up my mind which one would get the nom though.

Raven Ride is fucking unreal as well.....but then I am a big Tony Martin fan. It really does sound a lot like 'Headless Cross' era Sabbath.

Having said that of course, my AOTW is 'Arrival' - Cornerstone. Some beautiful AOR/hard rock grooves here, and Doogie White has never sounded better IMO.

That's one of their best albums IMO. I am definitely going to check out Raven Ride.

My AOTW is The Scorpions - Fly To The Rainbow, B-side especially. I really like their old work... Oh, I so hope they will release this years Wacken concert on DVD.

I hestitantly choose Evanescence "The Open Door." The first four tracks are solid, but when they start experimenting, the album goes downhill fast. Dare I say that Lacuna Coil wrote a better album this year?

Well, it is a good album... and their singer is a very nice man...

I dug into my record collection once more, got out Blue Oyster Cult - Some Enchanted Evening. The long guitar solo in Astronomy is indeed enchanting.

They've got a new track up on their Myspace site ( http://www.myspace.com/alysonavenue ) It's killer! Hopefully they can pull it together for a third album.

The keyboardist is also a permanent member of Shiva. They've got a new one out as well...what is it with Swedish musicians in the AOR scene? Seems like every musician has played on everyone else's albums.

My AOTW goes to Circle II Circle "Burden of Truth." Probably their best-to-date. The first album, 'Watching in Silence,' had standout tracks, but was an average album as a whole. 'Middle of Nowhere' was solid start to finish, but had no standout tracks. 'Burden of Truth' is both.

I bet Savatage are still kicking themselves in the rear for letting Zak Stevens go.
