Trial by Fire tour question

Postby bionic » Sun Oct 08, 2006 7:08 pm

Much has been said of Perry's voice in later years especially when he bowed out of the Trial by Fire tour. Now by all accounts prior to the recording of the record the guys met up in a rehearsal studio in L.A and got used to playing together and got some ideas together for the record. Now i would imagine that they ran through a few old songs to get the feel again.
Now if Perry's voice was not in any shape to do justice to the old songs, how in hell were they intending to tour for Trial by Fire????? Now i know there was a lot of money on the table for this reunion, but if you cant cut it live how are you going to tour? So it could be said that maybe his voice was not in as bad shape as people thought? 8)
I brought this up when i was at BT but it was not very well recieved,so here it is again for you guys.

Well I would imagine the band thought even a much subdued Perry in terms of hitting notes, was still a hot item for Journey, as Perry's voice was responsible for much of their success.

I would guess that his voice was just fine, did he sound like he did when he was 20-30 something, no......but I'm sure it was good enough to do everything live, the D. Dozen and the new stuff.......

just like I think his voice is just fine now......

I remember from one of the herbie interviews he said the guys were indeed impressed
when they ran thru some of the older material, he was trying to talk them out of it
but Steve showed them he still could do it, I think for the tour however he would
have lowered some of them.

Good points by all.

1) Perry in a lowered key is still pretty damned good....

2) Neal take him back in a minute? ..I agree with JJ...I don't think so now...just my opinion

3) "They" Neal and Jon were planning on touring, and SP, (IMO), never was. He had NO intention of touring.

Where is Stuart when you need him. Stu is Rossvaloryrocks, and is well read in this era.

Dean--if his voice was OK then that makes u right about him not wanting to tour unless of course the hip started up and just at the right time, of course, which leads me to believe there were many circumstances involved in the decision not to tour. Premeditated?--not sure!!!! :)

Do the math.

Perryis lazy as Susan, and his voice was not as good as previous tours....However, what I was saying is I would take Perrys voice at 70% over anyone elses at full..

Couldn't agree with you more, Deano!!!

I read somewhere that Steve may have Gaucher's Disease, which is a pretty significant condition that can affect the musculoskeletal system (degenerative problems), brain, lungs, etc. If SP does in fact have this, it would make sense to me that he would be hesitant to go on the road, because the treatment for this is on-going, and as private as he is he would not want people to find out details about his illness. I know in interviews when asked about his health, he has been somewhat vague, but eluded that he was still dealing with health issues. It reminds me of the movie Rockstar when the guy is getting dialysis while on the road. I'm sure that is not the kind of life SP would want.

Obviously I don't know if any of that is true, but it does seem possible to me.

Even so, I'm ready for a reunion - and a duet with JSS would be outta this world!!!!

Honestly, I don't remember where I read it, I have been trying to read as much as I can lately. It was mentioned on some forum, but I'm not sure which one. I did investigate Gaucher's Disease online a little bit, and when you consider it all, it could be possible. Perhaps you've read that he also had an interest in neurology, and that goes along those same lines. If he were taking long-term doses of steroids like Prednisone, it could also explain the weight gain and roundness in his face (side-effects of those type of steroids).

I hope it's not true, and if it is, that he's got it under control and will be well enough to give us what we're hoping for, something new in '07!!!! He's certainly looking healthy right now!!!

While we are on the subject of his health, has anyone noticed the small red scar on his neck. Check out pics from STAR in Jan 05, left side of adams apple. about 1 inch long. could be cervical spine, throat, thyroid, look at later pics closely also the pink butterfly rash over cheeks and nose? puffy face could definitely be prednisone. Maybe auto-immune disorder? Only guessing, have not info. :)

Just wonderin; do we as women have an innate need to mother this man; to imagine health problems just to explain the need to care and love him. i haven't noticed butterfly rashes nor do i imagine immune disorder related diseases; even if it was there besides prayers and good wishes we as women fans can only send him our blessings.
