OT Hear this guy sing!! Frank Previte

Postby McNeil » Tue Oct 10, 2006 11:11 am

Always lookin to bring some sounds to people that they might not have heard.

All you lovers of fantastic AOR vocalists will know of Frank Previte, who fronted early 80's band Franke and The Knockouts

They had 3 albums out.. vinyl in those days

first self titled, second called "Below The Belt", third, and best, called "Makin A Point" all 3 had been re released in late 90's.. I managed to grab "Makin A Point"
Recently picked up a couple live radio broadcasts from the 80's they must have done.

please do yrself a favour and check out/download this track. Ive just put on yousendit .. its called "Your Just What I Want" from 2nd album "Below The Belt" The guy is amazing, as is the band... all excellently "tight as a gnats chuff" harmonies.. Andrew Wombat put one of their vidz up in Mr X a while ago..called "Keep On Fighting", which features the band doin an Acapella version of the chorus on the song..live... before breaking into the lip synch of the vid.. amazing.

Check out the dynamics of the track... rockin hard, then a little laid back..... nice guitar solo... building to Frank Prevites rising vocal at the end.... fackin magic...and all totally live, without a net! ...from Penn State, 1982

You're probably thinking of "Dirty Dancing". Eric Carmen recorded that song for the soundtrack.

I LOVE this fucker!!! He was always one of my favourite undiscovered singers that should have been right up there with Perry, Lou Gramm & Mike Reno, unfortunately they had 2 mild hits here in the US & never broke out again. I still listen to the Best Of CD I have with fond memories of singing every drop of this guys chops, & boy does he have 'em...or did back in the day anyway.

Another note, don't know if anyone covered this tidbit yet, this is the band Jon Bon stole Tico Torres from, TT played on I believe the 1st 3 albums before he had to commit full time to BJ, not a tough decision obviously. But these tracks are gems, treasured ones at that! Good on ya McNeil.

Hey JSS....

Glad you like the guy

Another fantastic singer, little known, but known by a few discerning listeners, is a guy called Lou Nadeau, singer for 80's Canadian AOR 'sters "Wrabit"

the guys voice was gobsmackingly good...with a powerful, stratospheric range!!

like so many others he completely dissapeared off the radar during the late eighties... where the fuck do these guys end up??

I have 2 of them on CD... much sought after.... the debut, "Wrough and Ready" and "Tracks" ...another fackin clice of sheer vocal Nirvana !!

Yep, know them well, I have one of the albums (on vinyl!!) still somewhere. Ever check out the group Lionheart with Dennis Stratton of Iron Maiden? The had a young Brit named Chad Brown who sang his balls off, the highest of highs, killer! Also, the LeRoux album All Fired Up with Fergie Frederickson, classic! Yep, all these killer pipes lost in the abyss somewhere....good we remember them though :)

But yea, Franke & The Knockouts, thanks for sparking me to pump that one out on my iPod in my hotel tomorrow night as I'm settling into the room, need a fix of that stuff again!

Hi JSS.... yes.... "So Fired Up" is on my all time great list..Fergie soared like an Eagle on that one...esp the track "Carries Gone" ...Jeez..... magnificent

Did you know that FERGIE TRIED OUT FOR ANGEL BACK IN LATE 70'S?? I have some demos...wild, also I have a top notch sound board boot of Fergie in Sweden, doin stuff from his then new cd Equilibrium...in the set he does "Diane" from his collaboration with Ricky Phillips, and also "Angel Dont Cry" from his Toto days...also...wait for this...he does "Turning Point" from his LeRoux stint!! ... only prob was...he had a stinking cold that day...you can hear him snuffling right thru... but he still turned in a "performance" you want hear this stuff?..I will dig it out and upload later.... just let me know... same goes for anyone else here.... I'm always prepared to put stuff up

heres a link to a Wrabit track I just uploaded on yousendit

from Wrough and Ready.. "Anyway Anytime"

http://download.yousendit.com/0A329DB000B8EEDF

enjoy... hope its not on the album you already have... can upload some from "Tracks" if u aint got it

I love the singers that can soar..... ever heard of Max Bacon?? did some solo stuff..and also was in an early 80's Brit metal band called Bronze..and yea, I have some rare vid of Lionheart, on a Brit metal show called ECT !! good pipes indeed!

also Pepi Castro, from "Balance" ..not the worlds most fantastic voice, but a distinctive sound to it... their second and final album "In For The Count" was outta this world...bit ahead of its time then!.. he was another guy who joined a monastic order or something..Jesus H Christ..hope your not thinking of joining the Carmelites any day soon !! haha

Heres another Franke and The Knockouts" track this time from "Makin A Point" (re released on Escape records in Europe late 90's)

called.... "Carrie Why?" (AOR bands seemed to have a fixation with girls called Carrie back then...lol)

Enjoy, this remastered version of this rockin song.....

http://download.yousendit.com/01D95311071E9ED8

ANOTHER TIDBIT... Guitarist Bobby Messano... did a stint in USA Stadium rockers "Starz"

Question.... AOR originated in the American stadiums, yet its really only European labels like MTM, Blade, Roadrunner,SPV and Escape that are keepin the flame alive?? esp around the Scandinavian countries..come on America for fucks sake... shake it up over there!! far too much "done by the numbers" Rn B n "rappin" shit for my liking!!

I had to look that name up because I'd never heard of him. Looks like he was a guitarist for the band before they brough in Adrian Smith.
