Hi Andrew and welcome to the good ole US of A. I'd ask you to give JSS a wet sloppy kiss for me but it just wouldn't be the same now would it? He can PM me if he wants to meet up and get one though.

Wow, that fire looks scary. Hope everything's OK with your home. Looks kinda like California does at times.

Come to Virginia and I'll fix you some country ham and homemade biscuits and you can chase it down with good ole' Franklin County moonshine.

Holy Smoke Wombat!
That's one heck of a fire.

Summer is just beginning down under but would imagine
Tazmania doesn;t get the heat of the northern territories.

We had a fire in San Bernadino proximity that burnt for 3 weeks this past September.
Fire is actually part of nature and has long term benefits to vegetation and soil.
Nature doesn't care about these square structures we humans build everywhere

Absolutely right...

Worst fire conditions in 40 years back home and still 2 months out from the official start of bushfire season. Nevertheless, on this occasion only a little property and a lot of bushland burnt. No one hurt.

Different situation....up north gets humidity, so there is a lot of water/moisture in the air and less fire threat. In Tasmania, bushland goes right up to within 1 mile of the city and there is little humity, so it can be dry and 20C (68F) and still be a fire danger.

This week saw 90F temps and gale force winds - the result being the picture above. Add to that the fact is has barely rained in 6 months. Very dangerous.
