Looking for people to donate their Steve Augeri pics for display on JRNY'swebsite. In Steve's honor, I'd like to dedicate an entire page to him and his fans.

Personal photos (you and Steve), as well as concert photos are welcome. I'll also post any personal messages you might have for him. Hopefully either he or Lydia will see the pics and messages and know that we are all still rooting for him and his recovery.

There is also a Guest Book will on the page where you can enter your thoughts about and messages to Steve.

Whatever your position on who should be Journey's Lead Vocalist of the future, I believe most of us still support Steve and appreciate what he did to help keep the Journey alive for the past 8 years. Everyone is welcome to post to the GuestBook (no speculation on Steve's position with Journey in the future) and submit pics, if they so wish.

Thanks for your support and you can email all pic donations with your authorization to post them, to EclipticJourney@yahoo.com

http://jrnyradio.tripod.com/

I also invite you all to the new JRNY Forums.

p.s. How the hell did Dean ever manage to stay out of this thread?? Andrew must have put a "gag order" on the guy!

I'm guessing he's just still at work and hasn't seen it yet.

The TRUTH from the band would have been nice.

In what alternate reality would that actually take place? The band will never directly address what happened, and frankly, they have no need to nor any responsibility to. I admit that when these allegations were buzzing around and Augeri was faced with doing the first few shows of the tour without assistance, I felt like it was necessary for the band to say something - But only by the necessity of continuing the tour with Augeri. It was ridiculous for Augeri to be on stage every night unable to perform and NOT address that something was going on. I was PILLORIED for even suggesting that Augeri had no business sacrificing himself like that. But when Augeri was replaced mid-tour, it pretty much took the wind out of the sails of the entire "scandal" and made any need to address it pretty much a moot point.

I agree with everything you said 100%. But...it would have been nice if they had come out and told everyone truth. Erase all doubts...dispell the bullshit and rumours. And then move on. They just skipped the telling the truth part before they moved on. But, you're exactly right...it's a "moot point".

No offense to Augeri, but if it hadn't been him fronting the band, it would've been someone else. He just happened to get the job. So it's not like they said to themselves "if we can't have Augeri, we won't have anyone."

Do you really believe there was a shortage of vocalists willing to step up and front Journey? I think the opposite. If it had not been Augeri, there would have been someone. Schon and Cain were not content with waiting on Perry to figure things out, why would they just throw in the towel if they could not have Augeri??

From what I have heard, they auditioned a handful of quite good singers. Among them was Geoff Tate of Queensryche. The word I heard was that Jeff did not quite fit the style or what they were looking for at the time and neither did any of the others. Apparently Augeri was the only one auditioned who had what they were looking for. Now we can argue about the criteria they were using when looking for the new singer all day long. :)

I love Tate but he would not have fit Journey. But I would LOVE to hear ANYTHING he demo'ed with the guys.

I think, in the studio for 2 1/2 albums, Augeri did a pretty good job. I still love Arrival and a handful of tunes off of Generations.
Where Augeri failed was his LIVE performances and his stamina to keep touring. No one could've predicted his struggles when they signed him on.
So in that regard, I don't think Journey made a bad choice 'at the time'.

You know I have heard this statement that Tate would not fit with Journey several times. I am curious why people say that. I think Tate definately has the vocal strength and range to cover the Journey catalog. I don't see much difference between the situation we have with JSS now and what they would have had with Tate. Tate also had the advantage of having a known name in the Rock world compared to the relatively unknown Augeri. Don't get me wrong, I liked SA and I dig JSS too, just want to discuss. 8)

I think for me, Tate wouldn't work BECAUSE of his past work, does that make sense???
I just associate him with Ryche and that style. To me, Geoff would be just alittle too 'moody' and 'melancholy' for Journey.
Not to mention he has some pretty out-spoken Political views that, if put into the music, I don't think would've crossed over well to Journey's main fan base.
Again, no knocks on Tate at all. I love Ryche. I think they did a phenominal job with OMII; that was one album (OM) that I NEVER thought could be followed up properly but they did a great job and Tate's writing and vocals were incredible.
He's kinda taken the same path, vocally, as Perry; I think his ability to hit all those famous highs has diminished but he's added new nuances and styles to his lower ranges that make up for it.

Great point. You know I hadn't thought about that till you just mentioned it. I definately agree that the political aspect would not have worked in Journey. Tate would have had to have left that aspect out of his writing, and that may not be something he would be willing to do. I do worry a little about JSS when I read some of the lyrics he has written/sang over the years. SS's Peephole comes directly to mind. For an outside band I have no problem with this, but I definately would begin to have reservations should Journey lyrics start to deviate towards that type of song.

I think they did a phenominal job with OMII; that was one album (OM) that I NEVER thought could be followed up properly but they did a great job and Tate's writing and vocals were incredible.

Operation Mindcrime is still one of my all time favorite recordings. Have not picked up OM2 yet. Need to get out and buy that one soon.

I would also have loved to hear Tate's takes on Journey tunes.
To me I hear similarities between him and Sir Soto.
Think he would have added edge much like Soto does.

Back in the day, Tate may have actually had MORE range than Perry in his prime. That being said, Tate has a very unique voice that wouldn't fit in Journey, in my opinion. I don't know how to describe it, though.

Agreed. His lower register is incredible. A lot of singers lose the power in their voices going that low, but not so with Tate.

Speaking of those glass-shattering high notes he used to be able to hit, "Take Hold of the Flame" was one example of that, however I actually prefer the version of that song on "Live Evolution" to the original, despite the fact that he's obviously singing some of those notes much lower.

Tate is amazing! His control is insane. I hadn't listened to Helloween in years but I heard "Keeper of the Seven Keys" on XM the other day...
